So when the traffic engineer's family member dies in the hospital after 20 days of complications, they will feel much better about the hospital's safety than if their family member had died day 1 on the operating table.

It's the reason we don't usually report deaths per hospital day admitted

This is the biggest oil disruption in history | CNN Business A historic disruption to the world’s oil production sent crude prices smashing through the $100 barrier Monday for the first time in nearly four years.

Meanwhile, the price remains unchanged of the 173,000 terawatts of the sun's energy (10,000 times more than humans use) that is continuously striking Earth at every moment.

Denmark responded to 1973 oil crisis by reducing car-dependency. Let's do that now. - Streetsblog Chicago "The government had to introduce car-free Sundays. And then people realized that the car-free Sunday was the best day of the week."

FYI the 1970s oil crisis was the impetus for Copenhagen turning into a cycling city

Adding 54 amendments to a Millionaires Tax bill seems excessive. Almost like time wasting. But that would never happen I am sure.

I only listen to Bellevue Community Radio 91.3, a Pacifica affiliate. Great news programming in the am and wonderful music in the PM.

If more representatives posted the way you do, civic health would improve as more people would understand how government works.

This is the same town where the former Mayor Craig Coyner died from exposure in Feb 2023 while living in a tent on the Bend Parkway he helped build years before.

It really makes you wonder about a place.

We care about climate, safety and fairness only if we continue handouts to corporations.

"they need to die, or go back to their country of origin"

Sounds a bit like the "Crucifixion or freedom?" options in Monty Python's movie Life of Brian. It was meant to be absurd. Yet here we are.

Unlike measles, I've seen many cases of TB. It is called "The Great Imitator" for a reason. It hides and can look like something else. Although most people will never know someone affected, we are always thinking about it in clinics and hospitals!

Interesting bill. Though a group could just form multiple LLCs to get around the 500 limit.

I'd prefer if property taxes started to climb 2x to 3x on each property once the single family home count goes above 5.

I was excited to see it get as far as it did. But surprised to see a road user would not be considered vulnerable if injured by a company truck as opposed to a private car. Strange how these changes creep into bills.

Yes let's reframe them as corporate giveaways, handouts or welfare. Good bye to terms tax break or subsidy - the terms corporate lawyers hide behind as they take money from children and sick people.

At least the Single Payor commitment by WA State passed the senate in a vote a few days ago (SB 5947). Triggers if we get a federal waiver.

There's also a "10 state" initiative for single payor planned 2028. Ten states would overwhelm insurance company opposition, enabling wins in a few states.

Walkability is a huge factor for determining your health.

Parking private stuff on public sidewalks for extended periods might be a reason many people do not walk.

Two sides of the same tree in Seattle.

One side full of color where someone created beauty. The other side grass, welcoming to a parked car.

Maybe the City should offer native plants & seeds to encourage community building.

I seem to remember people saying a pandemic wouldn’t happen. Until that is it hit my hospital in Kirkland causing catastrophe.

Amazing that GHGs are a still a threat to public health despite what Trump says.

And yes Congress will need to do some work rather than relying on the courts all the time.

If a Member of the House (TD) in Ireland used that phrase during debate, it would be considered β€œunparliamentary”.

Funny how some phrases get a teeny bit lost in translation 😊

I assumed they were special climate shelters aimed at protecting people from sun in the summer. Heat kills more people than rain. We don’t have the golf ball sized hailstones, yet.

Unfortunately it took a driver hitting numerous kids for this to happen. I look forward to sitting motionless at this light in the right turn lane and not getting pressure from drivers behind.

It reads like it was done by consultants. Rather than people who know how the city should feel at street level.

This section seems like a great spot for a Shared Street or plaza in South Wallingford. Next to the Eco built Brooks Building, the Bouldering Project, ice cream and pre schools.

SDOT is already revamping the pedestrian crossing on Stone Way and N 36th.

Always exciting dodging massive trucks in the busy U district. β€œJust go around” is what we are told.

Corporate profits drive these massive trucks which require fewer drivers. Smaller vehicles would increase safety on city streets.

Walkout by kids just now from Eastside Prep chanting ICE OUT NOW!

Interesting when kids of billionaires start protesting in the streets. This is the school where both Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates sent their kids.

Seen at the Seattle VA today.

People find a way to remember VA ICU nurse Alex Pretti shot down on the street while helping someone.

Used it for first time last week. Nice woman sitting in bike lane with hazard lights on. When I pulled out my phone to report a bike lane obstruction, she unexpectedly drove off giving me the finger. Very touchy some of these drivers.

Letter to Irish Times

The notion that ever more garish clothing will compensate for distracted driving is a convenient fiction. No amount of fluorescent fabric can counteract the motorist scrolling on their phone or the driver travelling too fast.

I remember "targeted enforcement" outside the Dail. Anyone riding a bike without a light would face the wrath of a guard jumping out of their box.

Absolute zero focus on speeding car drivers.
