Most of the scientists at the nonprofit that I cofounded, including my two cofounders, came from NCAR. Itβs hard to overstate the importance of this place for climate science.

It is hard to overstate how critical @ncar-ucar.bsky.social is to climate science in the US and around the world. It's the beating heart of our field. Generations of scientists have trained there, and almost everyone I know relies on deep collaborations with NCAR scientists. It's end is unthinkable.
After 2 years of war, 98% of tree cropland and 75% of greenhouses in Gaza have been destroyed. Remote sensing maps tracking the progression of damage can help identify the best ways to remediate the land & rebuild Gazaβs agricultural sector. #AGU25

Proud to share our new paper in npj Clim. Atmos. Sci. (@SpringerNature)!
Our findings:
1οΈβ£ reduce uncertainty in mid-latitude climate projections
2οΈβ£ increase confidence that #ClimateModels correctly predict a future poleward shift of the #JetStream

Absolutely delighted to announce the publication of our benthic foraminifera trace element compilation + revised multivariate calibrations: Nauter-Alves et al. (2025):

this suggests many benthic foraminiferal elements require multivariate calibrations to account for temperature and seawater carbonate chemistry - we present data processing software 'ElCaRBenthic' that can simultaneously solve for temperature and Ξ©calcite with fully propagated uncertainties
new paper led by Andressa Nauter-Alves assessing controls on trace elements (Mg, Sr, B, Li /Ca) in multiple species of benthic foraminifera using a large compilation of coretop samples (>1500 sites).

New research published today in @nature.com shows the Southern Annular Mode (SAM) β the Southern Hemisphereβs most influential climate driver β has reached its most positive state in more than a millennium.

A rather pointed Opinion piece in Frontiers & a totally bizarre situation. Nature Geoscience published a 2024 claim of dark O2 production on the Pacific seafloor. There were several obvious problems with the work & multiple lines of argument that it wasn't correct

I love how being a librarian means I'm learning new things *all* the time. I've got a PhD in oceanography, but this morning I was answering a reference question & learned about ocean spiciness & how seawater can be "spicy" or "minty." π TY to the person who asked about velocities of deep currents. π

@agu.org New in #JGR a study on π Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement: higher alkalinity speeds up growth of key #coccolithophores, but at very high TA calcification falters & shells deform. Authors suggest TA <~3,000 ΞΌmol kgβ1 as a safer ecosystem boundary. doi.org/10.1029/2025... #protistsonsky
π’Global Carbon Budget 2025π’
Fossil CO2 emissions continue to rise in 2025 while the terrestrial carbon sink recovers to pre-El NiΓ±o strength.
The key findings are covered in two reports this year:
