To finalize this intro I want to share the Bonfire campaign we are having. The Raptors of Belize campaign wants to showcase the beautiful raptors of the country starting with the highly endangered Orange-breasted falcon in honor of our gorgeous Maya!

Since last year she started the Poison Free Belize campaign that aims at lowering (and eventually ban) the use of rat poison in the country while educating the public about the nefarious effects it has on wildlife.

Caught the 7th eagle yesterday & what a week we’ve had! This dude was almost 5 kg (tho he had 300g of food in his crop)

We’ll be getting another transmitter in the next days & after that one we’ll be done for the season!

They breed in the Arctic Circle in Canada.

We are conducting a migration study. These eagles spend the winter here in the driftless area and sometimes they are seen in pairs so we want to know if those are mated pairs and if they are do the migrate together. For that we have to trap a mated pair which we haven’t been able to do yet

These are two different populations, the eastern migrates and nests in the arctic, the western stays there all year round…

Yup! These are migrating Golden Eagles, so we track their migrating patterns from the Arctic Circle all the way down here and viceversa. We’ve gotten nice data from them, tho we haven’t been able to tag a pair (which is the objective of the project) to see if they migrate together or meet up or what

Banding, sampling and putting transmitters on the adults, tho in this case this is a third year bird and we needed to get rid of a CTT unit so he got tagged.

We are trapping Golden Eagles with the Raptor Resource Project in the driftless area in Wisconsin.
