I’m super psyched for this new publication that is an online mag AND a literal vending machine that dispenses awesome zines made by real artists. If you’re in the Indianapolis area, you can visit one of the actual zine machines at Tomorrow Bookstore. (I really wish I lived closer 😭)

Also I got a new poem accepted for publication last week, which was just the best surprise. 😭

So for the other poets really struggling out there: a tiny bit of something is so much better than a whole lot of nothing.

I’ve managed to write something for about 4 days out of 21 so far, but I’m still counting it as a win because four is also so much more than zero. And I’ve actually made progress on a new poem that I like & am hoping to include in my in-progress manuscript.

I’ve been trying to write a poem a day for the month of April in order to get myself back to poem-writing again after a too-long dry spell brought on by burnout, exhaustion, & grief.

It’s my birthday week! It’s also the last week of National Poetry Month. To celebrate, for each signed copy of my book ordered through my website (link in bio) between April 22 & May 1, I’ll also include a new little poem handwritten on the back of a pretty postcard.

Nell’s Ode
She is spherical, like a globe.
I could find out countries in her. β€” Comedy of Errors

All that is great in me might be made little
by a word. But I will spin you a tale
that brings you in again, for every orb
is an icon and every kitchen
an abattoir birthing appetites. You
name, but in the kitchen Fire
is the force worth knowing. I am swart
as the earth’s crust, soot as the banked embers,
hot as a devil’s dam inside
just like this mantled world, and I
will swallow you in me so that
the map lines of your life are lost. By me
you are a stranger made a woman’s man
uncertain to himself within the wheel
until you turn (but just as I turn)
toward you and away. As if you ever
could stop burying in me
desires that I raise in you.

To her fury

(Luke 10: 38-42, abbr.)

In the blue shadow of her kitchen
Martha hears:
drop everything listen
you're anxious, Martha
worry too much, Martha, do
too much your doing
is not learning and does not
matter in the big picture. Martha
it doesn't leave anything
behind, Martha Martha,
you keep choosing
wrongly

you're missing
the good news

Martha in the kitchen chops
her onions finely adds
salt & pepper to her fury
blue her shadow
across the table she cuts
green crispness to ribbons gages
the cadence of her slicing

the lordly drone next door

Martha in the blue shadow
to her fury says
yes and
yes still

prepares
the dressing

It’s been an especially hard month for me (on top of an especially hard few years), so I’m a bit behind in posting about this glint of good news. @coffinbell.bsky.social published 2 of my poems in their newest issue, released on Halloween.

It’s been a year of upheaval, growth, and new beginnings. Growth is uncomfortable so much of the time. Healing hurts. But I’m still here, still growing.

You might not really know where to start when it comes to describing your artistic journey for an outside audience. And that makes narrowing it all down to 100 words even harder. But Perilune is here to help!

Writing & Revising Poems from Your Body (Not Your Brain) poet, graphic designer, and writing coach Lindsay Lusby on how writing and revising lives in our bodies, finding the right form for your poems, and keeping your first draft energy as you edit

I love this idea of writing & revising intuitively & listening to your body. Read @lindsaylusby.bsky.social's essay on Nancy Reddy's blog.

So if you buy a signed copy of my book from me during the month of April, I will also include a free bonus book (or 2!) from my shelves. It could be poetry! It could be The Tao of Pooh or Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead! But it will definitely be a surprise!

Hey, friends! It’s National Poetry Month! Also, I’m moving on May 1 and I have SO MANY BOOKS to pack up. (Seriously, I’m not kidding. We’re pushing 1,800 books in my little house. πŸ˜…) I also got a whole box of my own little book back in February!
