I maintain that simply arresting Elon musk and making a real example of him is the quickest way to global stability

so apparently Brian McGinnis has been denied access to both his family and legal representation since a sitting senator broke his arm

We need your help bringing two pregnant women back home from ICE detention! Their loved ones and community are asking for financial assistance to support the family during these difficult times.

Anyway, on to some shorter books.

It's also more aware of class and money than I expected going in, though without the subtlety or insight of Jane Austen (who came later, and apparently considered Fielding's work vulgar). The double standard of Jones' promiscuity versus Sophia's devout chastity may have been considered funny once.

It's also a bildungsroman, but one more along the lines of TRISTAM SHANDY (which is funnier, but less coherent) or--I'd argue--the GORMENGHAST books, which also have "main characters" who spend the first chunk of the story as infants (or pre-infants!) and have a surprising lack of agency.

It's not a laugh-out-loud book, but it's self-aware and satirical, and Fielding-as-narrator is possibly more of a character than Jones himself, who is ostensibly the protagonist. Has a comedy of manners (do people still use the term mannerpunk?) feel to it as well.

Woke up with a fever so slept late and finished reading THE HISTORY OF TOM JONES, A FOUNDLING by Henry Fielding. It's a long book--this edition is nearly 900 pages--and it's taken me a few weeks to finish. It didn't feel that long, though, thanks to Fielding's humor.

This is an ASTONISHING level of corruption.

DHS handed a $143 MILLION no-bid contract to a company that was 8 days old, with no headquarters, no website, no prior federal work, and an address linked to a residence of a political operative.

It should be a much bigger story that oil prices surged because of Trump’s illegal war in Iran, forcing the White House to ease sanctions on Russian oilβ€”only for Russia to take that money and help Iran target American troops.

If landlords are being forced to collect rent, tell Frey to put pressure on mortgage lenders to give landlords the break they can pass onto their tenants who need the help.

A digitally drawn homage to the George Herriman comic strip Krazy Kat. Starting left of frame we see yellow Ignatz Mouse having just thrown a brick which is sailing across the center of the frame and in another instant will bash the oblivious Krazy Kat (a blue bipedal cartoon cat wearing a red scarf) in the back of the head as he walks innocently to the right. Everything is drawn in rough black pen and colored in pale washes. A speech bubble from Ignatz reads β€˜Maybe it will…’, the word ’Happen’ appears in the whooshing trail of the sailing brick, and a final speech bubble belonging to the Kat reads β€˜β€¦Today’.

U.S. Sen. Klobuchar: Federal agents in Minnesota near 'original footprint,' contradicting Noem's claim U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar spoke with MPR News host Clay Masters about her reaction to Noem leaving the post.

@klobuchar.senate.gov if this is true why are they bringing in more vehicles to Whipple? Why are they shipping building materials into that facility?

You're just going to keep believing people who lie and can't get their lies straight?

We have heard from migrants subjected to ICE flights that guards/federal agents lay out the WRAP on the tarmac as a threat: Do what we say on the flight or you're gonna get put in a straitjacket.

There was MUCH less evidence for antisemitism from Mamdani than there is from Platner, but the fact that some Jews had concerns led Mamdani to do lots of Jewish outrage, meet with Jews, go to synagogues, and such. Platner is notably not doing that.

Trans Porn Is Booming. Trans Rights Are Fading We asked trans adult creators about the complicated link between desire and politics, as trans porn is booming while rights fade.

Interesting interview in Playboy with transgender adult content creators. People often point to Pornhub stats showing trans content is more popular than ever as a contradiction, as if political and sexual objectification were ever mutually exclusive

It's good that Noem is gone but it's much too little and far too late. Our undead president is just going to replace her with another soulless goon and the media is going to make this look like a win for him.
