Bayer offers $7.25bn to settle weedkiller cancer claims
[Image: Bottles of Roundup weed and grass killer are stacked at a Costco Wholesale store on March 11, 2025 in San Diego, California]
17 February 2026
Bayer, the German bio-tech giant, has proposed paying $7.25bn (Β£5.35bn) to definitively resolve a legal battle in the US over whether its Roundup weedkiller causes cancer.
The possible settlement is part of a broader push to secure closure over the claims, which have weighed on the company since it bought Monsanto, the American-maker of the widely used but controversial herbicide.

s/s from the Birmingham Brewing Company About Us page
Fuelled By Renewable Energy
As part of our commitment to brewing a positive impact in the community, all of our operations in the brewery and taproom are fuelled by 100% renewable sources such as wind and solar power.
We also make sure that we donβt leave any negative impact with the waste we produce either. Our brewing waste is collected by Park Farm in Frankley and is used as livestock feed, while all of our packaging and non-brewing waste is recycled.

"Our brewing waste is collected by Park Farm in Frankley and is used as livestock feed"
So not just beer that is tasty, vegan and gluten-free but also recycling process waste.
Maybe if they get bigger they will start offering compost too? Will pass on the query.

Fruit & Nut Village is an excellent charity based in Birmingham. They are growing orchards & perennial food spaces, and work with local communities to "develop a range of edible landscapes".
They currently manage around 70-80 growing spaces in total, across Balsall Heath, Druids Heath and Stirchley.
