Shrinking North American bird population is getting worse faster. Experts blame agriculture, warming
A new study finds North American bird populations keep dropping, and that decline is speeding up for many species.
It's an alarming trend that the abundance of birds is declining precipitously. Even broad generalist 'common' birds like starlings or house sparrows are dwindling—which raises the questions how more vulnerable species are faring.

What's playing out here in the Delaware River with Atlantic Sturgeon is a pattern seen in other parts of the country. In Fort Lauderdale, a dredging proposal by the Army Corps could smother and choke off some of the last endangered Staghorn corals in the region.

Trump order pushes glyphosate production; Roundup chemical hated by MAHA
Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Make America Healthy Again movement is largely opposed to glyphosate.
Trump's new executive order invokes the Defense Production Act to promote phosphorous and glyphosate production. Glyphosate is a toxic herbicide that has been the center of many lawsuits for its links to health problems.

Rock Salt Could Enter Philadelphia Drinking Water Supply As Snow Melts Across The Region
"Salt in the waterways has been doubling about every 20 years," John Jackson, a senior scientist at Stroud Water Research Center.
Water tasting saltier? Our water treatment plants are not designed for large scale desalinization, which is itself a very energy intensive and expensive process. Saltwater from the sea, and road salt runoff into our tributaries are causes for concern.

Radioactive Oil and Gas Waste May Lie Beneath a North Texas Elementary School
A massive Dallas-Fort Worth subdivision and a school have risen atop layers of oil and gas drilling waste. One worker who helped spread the material is speaking out.
Some of the drilling waste produced by fracking is too thick to re-inject back into the ground. Instead, it sometimes gets spread out over farms and fields... and sometimes elementary schools and other developments get built on top of these fields.

When fracking industry needs to dispose of millions of gallons of toxic wastewater, they inject it underground.
But uncovered documents show that this practice was known not to be safe, for decades. Investigative Journalist Justin Nobel tells the story:

Weather is warming up and as people are still thawing out, there's something we need to keep in mind—salt is toxic to our environment and our freshwater ecosystems! What we put out in the world has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is often our soils and streams.
