A lot of companies are using AI by doing “plug and pray” as in hoping it will work rather than understanding the use case and what the problem is

Thank you! “Don’t use AI just for the sake of it”.
AI LOVES writing code rather than write code after principles such as DRY. This can cause issues with readability and usability
It failed because it couldn’t effectively access relevant information to help the engineering customers out properly. In the end the devops team always had to help so they scrapped it
Yay! Lovely engineering leader just shared openly a failed AI agent story! They tried to build a chat bot to help internal support questions and it failed. Thank you for your honest experience!
The more presentations I see the more I think less is more on slides. Ok you have 4 points, do one per slide. Even if it’s just one word.
Hard-coded AI prompts? They're slowing down your testing.
Treat prompts like config & load them from files. Testers can then tweak them instantly.

How do devs feel about an AI future where they become the HR department / managers for AI rather than the creators of solutions using their coding expertise? Do you think that is what will happen? #ai
Listening to a talk which is confusing me. It talks about embracing genetic AI as it’s here to stay but to be ready for when it goes rogue. Argh
I like the idea of trying revers Conway law to help with desired transformations. We ten instant using org charts and that’s not very helpful if you know of Conway’s law
I love this!
Also removing failure or needing to deal with failure. We learn from failure. Are we dumbing down our very skilled work force?
One of my main issues with AI sales pitches is that it always talks about removing human collaboration. We have such low feelings of connection nowadays this will just make it worse
What do you do with the information from employee surveys? What do you share that you have changed based on feedback? If you don’t show you are listening and acting you will lose trust from employees
Psychological safety is built by actions not words. How do you show up as a leader every day? #evolve #brighton #inclusion

How can we embrace AI responsibly and sustainably? Do you need to generate and post cats and dogs doing high jump competitions?
Small tip for tech sustainability most might be able to do:
Use dark mode. It takes a bit less power.
Every little can make a difference despite it feeling a bit underwhelming in light of the cost of AI :/
Lovely to be back in the local tech community and see old friends as well as making new ones. #evolve #brighton #techcommunity
Adding custom alerting on spend can also help understand what you use and why and when.
Makes me think of cloud providers have a responsibility to advise their customers better?
Make sure you only pay for what you need.
Financial efficiency in the cloud:
*can you negotiate fixed billing?
*75% of companies overspend when moving to the cloud due to poor planning / understanding of billing models
Cloud adoption tends to fail not due to the tech, but due to people and processes not being addressed. It needs training, cultural changes and investment. #evolvebrighton2025
I haven’t really used this much yet. 😅 off to evolve conference in Brighton today!
There’s a moment when you realise that waiting for the “right time” is just another way to stay stuck.
If you’re tired of raising the same quality concerns with no impact, Q.E.D. Mastery is for you.
Doors close tonight.

I think the weirdest thing for me is that I ask a lot of clarifying questions of copilot whereas before I’d be pairing with someone and ask them. I wonder if teams feelings of being connected will go down now because we need to have less conversations?
So I’m conflicted. I’ve been using copilot for 2 days and added unit tests to 6 workflow scripts in our repo. So I’ve improved testing and quality for the future. Dev PR reviews have very little commentary on the code. Some stylistic changes. That’s all. I’ve learned a lot but typed little 🤷🏻♀️
I can’t work out if I’m scared of change. I’m not scared of AI replacing my job but I struggled to really engage with it for my job. I like solving a problem and I’m not sure what problem to solve with it? 🥲😆
My faith in humanity is so low. My parents were scammed out of a lot of money a few years back. Now my mum is getting scammed again, online people are being scammed for ozempic jabs. 😩😔
Most people won’t be affected that I know here but my mum nearly got scammed by this. www.o2.co.uk/inspiration/...
