I went to both Bradford Industrial Museum AND Cliffe Castle this half term and they were both banging. My little one had to listen to me bang on about working conditions and child labour laws that funded the extravagance but START THEM WHILST THEY'RE YOUNG

The image is a white background with gold triangles in three corners, the bottom right corner has the logo for the Information Literacy Award. The logo is all text in gold with the letters iLA in a large font with a thin line below it. Underneath this line it says Information Literacy Award in block capital letters.

The black text on the white background says "Winning the Information Literacy Award has been a significant highlight in my professional career. On a personal level, the award has given me visibility within the sector, strengthened my confidence, and provided a powerful reminder of the difference collective work can make." Rebecca Mogg, Library Education Lead, Cardiff University (Winner in 2025).

HIVE MIND #infolit looking for quippy quips and examples of what information literacy isn't (or what some might think IL is, but it's a bit more complicated than that) for a thing. Think stuff like "I'm Information Literate because I know how to use a database" (How? Why? What do you do next?)

13.02.2026 13:05 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

and unless editors start getting paid for their work (which isn't going to happen for OA journals) that's a full time job being done on the quiet around office hours. Ooooofff it's complicated, innit!

as a newbie to journal editorial management I am compiling frustrations with the peer review process, mostly along the "You Can't Evidence Your Impact If You're Anonymous" lines, so this is an interesting idea. BUT it requires a lot of labour that is currently shared across volunteers coming back

The work of Fobazi Ettarh was inspired, influential beyond words and has fundamentally changed how (some but growing number) librarians talk about themselves and their profession, her impact was phenomenal. This is a tragic, tragic loss and my thoughts are with those who loved her. What a voice.

With sorrow, we announce the passing of FOBAZI M. ETTARH 1989 - 2026.

Fobazi changed so many lives with her friendship, love, and brilliance. She was so loved, and leaves behind a powerful legacy.

We thank Fobazi's community for their support over the last several months of her illness. A private burial will be held for family. We will be in touch with further information about a future Celebration of Life event, as well as ways to support Fobazi's family and legacy.

Big tech upskilling

After announcing it in the summer, today the UK government launched free training courses to AI upskill workers. It's free because it's funded by big-tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and others, and not by local organisations in the UK who have been working with communities->

There is money for "education" if and only if that money is being directly funneled to corporations. Anything involving actual learning, however, well there's no magic money tree
