oh the first thing I'm doing this weekend is getting a bin and some spoons
First day as a manager today. What was the best thing a manager ever did for you?
My MA dissertation was on team structures in FE college libraries, so very different again! (I love the summer reading challenge as a parent, but urg it must be an administrative nightmare)
they stay with you.....
YES I would read that
I know what all of those mean, yes π
love this for you
I need example dissertation titles For A Thing - to make this FUN and HUMAN - what was your Undergraduate Dissertation? Mine was on the Luddite Rising in West Yorkshire in 1812 and the use of medical professionals as informants.
Would you like to come and work in my team? Feel free to get in touch to chat about the role.
I feel like I need a OA Scholarly Publishing Beefs and Gripes Network. Does one already exist I don't know about?
meeeeee (on the Tuesday)
Now I've just got to get her down a Mine and her full Yorkshire Childhood will be Unlocked
I went to both Bradford Industrial Museum AND Cliffe Castle this half term and they were both banging. My little one had to listen to me bang on about working conditions and child labour laws that funded the extravagance but START THEM WHILST THEY'RE YOUNG
The image is a white background with gold triangles in three corners, the bottom right corner has the logo for the Information Literacy Award. The logo is all text in gold with the letters iLA in a large font with a thin line below it. Underneath this line it says Information Literacy Award in block capital letters. The black text on the white background says "Winning the Information Literacy Award has been a significant highlight in my professional career. On a personal level, the award has given me visibility within the sector, strengthened my confidence, and provided a powerful reminder of the difference collective work can make." Rebecca Mogg, Library Education Lead, Cardiff University (Winner in 2025).

HIVE MIND #infolit looking for quippy quips and examples of what information literacy isn't (or what some might think IL is, but it's a bit more complicated than that) for a thing. Think stuff like "I'm Information Literate because I know how to use a database" (How? Why? What do you do next?)
and unless editors start getting paid for their work (which isn't going to happen for OA journals) that's a full time job being done on the quiet around office hours. Ooooofff it's complicated, innit!
as a newbie to journal editorial management I am compiling frustrations with the peer review process, mostly along the "You Can't Evidence Your Impact If You're Anonymous" lines, so this is an interesting idea. BUT it requires a lot of labour that is currently shared across volunteers coming back
The work of Fobazi Ettarh was inspired, influential beyond words and has fundamentally changed how (some but growing number) librarians talk about themselves and their profession, her impact was phenomenal. This is a tragic, tragic loss and my thoughts are with those who loved her. What a voice.
With sorrow, we announce the passing of FOBAZI M. ETTARH 1989 - 2026. Fobazi changed so many lives with her friendship, love, and brilliance. She was so loved, and leaves behind a powerful legacy. We thank Fobazi's community for their support over the last several months of her illness. A private burial will be held for family. We will be in touch with further information about a future Celebration of Life event, as well as ways to support Fobazi's family and legacy.
I'm pleased to have co-authored a new article out today in the Canadian Journal of Academic Librarianship. Kevin Sanders, @sluginkpress.bsky.social, and I reflect on the Radical Librarians Collective and how we situate radical librarianship alongside critical librarianship. doi.org/10.33137/cja...

Big tech upskilling
After announcing it in the summer, today the UK government launched free training courses to AI upskill workers. It's free because it's funded by big-tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and others, and not by local organisations in the UK who have been working with communities->
There is money for "education" if and only if that money is being directly funneled to corporations. Anything involving actual learning, however, well there's no magic money tree
