After the Summit, Ive had a few days to get some training in before getting into the next project. With that time, I've been battle-testing the OSRS animation rig I've been working on, whilst also pushing my animation skills. It's a super simple sequence, but I am super happy with how it turned out
With the Sailing Roadmap video, I REALLY wanted to experiment with bringing life and emotion (also eyebrows) to the Old School player character, whilst also getting the visual + animation style closer to how we see the characters in-game.

It was a fun creative challenge to try and make all these little scenes filled with references for the crowd to spot in such a tight timeframe. Iโm so happy with how it all turned out and I learnt a lot about UE5 animation workflows. Hopefully I get to do something similar in the future.
The music I wrote my silly lyrics over was royalty free, which saved a lot of time. The rest was pretty much all done in Unreal Engine 5 (rigging and modelling were done in Blender).
Last year we got told we had a week or two to bugger off by ourselves and make silly videos to be played during RuneFest and this is what I threw together. Sadly it never saw the light of dayโฆ UNTIL NOW!

To me personally, I love the idea/creative challenge of being faithful to the source material whilst also fixing up certain limitations.
Things like the original varied frame rate animations and detachable arms bring a lot of charm to the characters imo.
Itโs a very fun little personal project.
As a half personal project and half personal training/experimental project for work Iโve been trying to find a more โgame accurateโ method of rendering characters for potential cinematics and other marketing stuff. Itโs very early days but I really am loving the look of these lil guys.

While it's tempting and noble for people to want to be paid for their work (and good posting can be good work), the root cause of like 90% of every platform's problems come from people trying to game the system to generate free money for themselves.
Itโs infuriating when corpo schmucks/random idiots use generative AI, but when ARTISTS are out here using that shit to do their job for them?! Disgusting cretin behaviour.
