Genesis auditioned a couple dozen potential replacements for Peter Gabriel as the new lead singer without finding “the guy.” At one point, Phil Collins suggested they be an instrumental band but Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford shot that idea down.
They were running out of time to find a singer.
One of my favorite things about Phil Collins is that before Peter Gabriel left Genesis and forced the band to search for a new lead singer, neither Phil or his bandmates realized that he was a really good singer.
My advice to the Administration: With the U.S. uncomfortably close to a recession -- and already in a jobs recession -- don't do anything rash that could make things worse.
