Welp: ZERO takers on the Trump administration's first lease sale for oil and gas development in the Cook Inlet, Alaska. Bidding closed today with no bids.
The lease sale was supposed to spark new interest in oil and gas development in the region. It doesn't seem to be working.
When I say white supremacy/colonialism is the #1 problem in social science today and that the theoretical foundations of all scientific fields are corrupted by unacknowledged and minimized bias, and that therefore we should question everything from said fields, white people just give me a blank look
I know itβs not everything, but itβs something: how each of us, in our little spheres of work & community, can help foster & sustain places of care, decency, & intelligence even when powerful people celebrate venal, coarse, mendacious practices. What a gift, to be able to do something so worthwhile
βWhat stood out clinically was that the chatbot interactions did not generate the illness, but appeared to scaffold and reinforce beliefs that were already becoming pathological.β

Some excellent headlines from the April 1963 National Eagle, the Portland, OR newspaper edited by the future chair of the Oregon Republican Party.
a young person in and their parent, faces cropped out, stand in front of a marble rail, holding a handmade poster: DONβT TREAD ON ME with a riff on the Gadsen flag snake against the pastel blue/pink/white stripes of the trans pride flag. the young person has on a LOVE MORE (rainbow heart) tee; their patent is in a LOVE IS LOVE tee.
thinking of this young person I met nearly five years ago at the Texas state Capitolβwhen activists defeated a raft of anti-trans laws introduced that yearβand this sign they made:
Trump's SOTU address. On the wall in the background are twin emblams of bundled sticks with axe blades pokin outta them.
Wikipedia page for fasces, the symbol of a bundle of rods and an axe. A fascist symbol. In fact, it says, the namesake of the term fascism.
It's been in plain sight all along.

"Dear Gutlessness Personified," wrote Indigenous Australian activists to the KKK in 1979. They enclosed a bottle of sunscreen.
Love ya, Blakfellas. Absolute legends, you mob.
It might mean you're getting a firsthand insight into how most Natives see this clown country
This is treasure.

A+ State of the Union counterprogramming by TCM.
The passenger in the car when Texas driver Martinez was fatally shot last year by a federal immigration agent gave a lengthy statement to lawyers for the slain manβs family disputing the governmentβs version of events.
That witness died Saturday in a fiery car crash.

Black and white photo of four baddass Indigenous women on horseback, one with a baby and a jaunty tilt to her Spanish padre hat. Smiling rez dog attempts a spotlight-stealing a cameo in the foreground. There's a fancy old west hotel in the background.

βThe story is not just about Frank and his charisma and his incredible body of work. Itβs about the way people uphold his memory and still talk about him 112 years after his death.β
