A wooden bridge, deeply incut and damaged by flooding on one side.
☹️ Bad news: Recent flood damage has shut the road bridge into Spittal of Glen Muick car park - including to walkers.
It's a popular starting point for walks at Glen Muick, plus Lochnagar and other Munros on that side of the Cairngorms.

🌸Happy #MeteorologicalSpring!🌸
It’s the time when the world starts to shake off its winter slumber (and hopefully some of this rain)! 🌱 While some say spring doesn’t officially begin until 20 March (#AstronomicalSpring), meteorologists like to kick it off a little early — today!

Flamingo Land: Plans for controversial resort at Loch Lomond rejected
The decision comes after years of often bitter debate over the plans for a £40m holiday park on the banks of the loch.
This atrocious development has finally been consigned to the bin! We campaigned long an hard on this one, so it is heartening to see the Scottish Government include our concerns about loss of ancient woodland in its reasoning. Congrats to all who fought locally and nationally.👏

Group using ice axes and crampons on snowy slope
It's absolutely full on winter conditions out there if you are heading to Scotland's mountains - and that means you need to carry and know how to use an ice-axe and crampons. If you don't, either choose a walk at lower levels, wait for the snows to melt before tackling the summits...

A herd of reindeer run across a slightly snowy hillside. It's a windy day and the reindeer are leaning sideways into the wind.
Today's reindeer feed was a BREEZY one! 💨
Can you see their beards blowing and how much they are all leaning into the wind? As always, it's amazing to see how capable the reindeer are in really challenging conditions. 💪

In 15 years when Peter Mandelson is next sacked from the government, having been caught red-handed robbing a bank, commentators will confidently predict that his career is definitely over this time.

Fata Morgana: when Morgan le Fay comes out to play
At first it was subtle, barely enough to suggest anything was amiss - a long, flat-topped plateau in the distance, somewhere over towards Drumochter, and I was struggling to identify it.

It's @walkhighlands.co.uk time! And in my latest column I'm taking a closer look at the weirdness that is Fata Morgana. I've only seen this bizarre mirage a couple of times, and this particular sighting was on 27th December on Carn na Drochaide. My brain hurts after writing it though! 😆

Scotland’s 'world-class' outdoor access laws at risk, Ramblers warn
RAMBLERS Scotland has warned that Scotland’s outdoor access laws, seen as one of the “stand-out achievements” of devolution, are being pushed…
"Scotland’s international reputation as a pioneer of outdoor access is in danger of becoming a hollow boast, unless politicians act.” - Our director @bjpaddy.bsky.social.
We're urging candidates in May's Holyrood election to commit to a £50million Scottish Paths Fund in the next 5-year parliament.👍
