Thank you to all who showed up!!
Thanks to those who have shared!
A little, but still wish I were!! Thank you for everything!
I hope this thread goes a short way toward making up for my absence at @standupforscience.bsky.social DC. I am standing with you. Please share pics and vids!!

Don't forget to add any information you can about why this all matters to your district or to your state, as well as the nation. Why is what's happening bad for the local, regional, or national workforce or the economy? What does it mean for the future of your district or state? Relevance is key.

A thread...
Of course, you can also call your Congressperson and speak to their staff or leave them a voice message, but do your homework and prepare. Speak to what matters to you, but also to them. And share news resources to back up your personal story. Say, "as described on Science Friday..." or "in Nature."
If you're not sure which committees your Congressperson is on, visit their website and they'll be listed. Also, most Congresspeople list "issues" they care about on their websites. See if you can relate your story to any of those issues for greater impact. Then, find their "Contact" form & share!
You can also share your story with organizations like @aip.bsky.social, or your professional societies if they are doing advocacy work, like @agu.org, @aibsbiology.bsky.social, or @aaas.org. Also, orgs like @planetarysociety.bsky.social & @researchamerica.bsky.social

In addition to sharing what's happening generally, it is REALLY important to tell your personal story to Congress. House Science Committee Democrats even have a web page for that (see banner at top of page): democrats-science.house.gov
Another, related, issue is the lack of new or renewed notices of funding opportunities (i.e., calls for new and renewal grant proposal submissions). If there are few calls to which researchers can submit proposals, money certainly can't go out the door.

...shutdown-related delays. Your dedicated agency program officials don't all know how much $ their programs are going to get and so may not be able to make new awards. And the fiscal year is almost half over! (FY26 started Oct 1, '25).
In some cases, reorgs mean there's not even a budget code.π€¦π»ββοΈ

Congress, especially the appropriators, need to understand that, even though the fiscal year 2026 budgets were authorized by Congress for the science agencies, it seems the federal Office of Management and Budget, led by Russ Vought, is holding up the allocation of program funds. This means...
Here's what you can do, especially if your senators or representative are on an Appropriations subcommittee that is involves a science agency or are on the House Science, Space, and Technology Cmte. or the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Cmte. --

I'm SO sad I won't make it to the DC @standupforscience.bsky.social rally (caring for an infant and, you know-cold, rain, measles, etc.). I'm gonna do my best to educate and advocate from my couch, though!
I'll start by sharing this via @scifri.bsky.social:

Opening social media in 2026.
Yes. And we have to talk about this now, because talking about it is the first step to making it seem like a callous crime rather than a surprising emergency.

The D.C. Court of Appeals has shaken up the debate over what D.C. Pepco customers pay for electricity, issuing a ruling that tossed out a previously approved multiyear rate hike.
