- Access to drugs or other medication or being the one with health insurance
- Having all the connections in a small community
- Who can speak/communicate thoughts easily in the moment vs who needs more time or alone time to process/think
- Who has dependents & who doesn’t

Examples of power dynamics to be mindful of:

- Having significantly more practical life experience
- Having more money or access to higher paying work
- Being listened to by authorities/the system
- Speaking/reading/writing the primary language of a country
- Citizenship

We are looking for PATTERNS OF BEHAVIOR.

Abuse is a pattern of behavior

If everyone is trying to be ethical: How are the 2 or more people in the relationship intentionally discussing or navigating the differences in power together in transparent & practical ways?

RE: Age Gaps

Like I’ve been saying for years, things make more sense if you focus on power differences and power dynamics in any given relationship instead of age

Does the older person have a history or pattern of behavior of pursuing younger people or people with less resources?

Some folks treated me like a naive child for believing we had the money to cancel a portion of student loan debt

Oh! They got a private room at least so the reasonable accommodation letter did do something!

We tried. I guess the most focus needs to be prepping the body before medical procedures, waiting until the last moment before taking off the mask, getting a mask on (+ air purifier) as soon as possible afterwards, and having the aftercare (rinses etc) ready for when you get back home

We called the patient advocate dept who said they couldn’t help us

Patient also submitted a reasonable accommodation request & no mask in place when the patient woke up

They had to wait until their loved one was called & allowed to see them in order to get any mask put on their face post-surgery

If someone is getting surgery, how do we get a mask back on their face as quickly as possible in the hospital?

Let’s assume we can’t get staff to mask and they won’t put a mask on their patient themselves.

What can the patient & the family do to get a mask back on them ASAP?

That’s a great idea. I didn’t think about Ted talks

I’ll keep this in mind, though I prefer to listen to native speakers for my language learning. Not a fan of EK due to her supporting apartheid tbh.

Thank you. I appreciate this anyway. Most of the resources I was finding centered white Spanish speakers

I need podcasts in Puerto Rican Spanish and African French

Do y’all have suggestions?

(I don’t want the equivalent of the Breakfast Club, please. I’ll be annoyed if I’m learning from bigots)

Esp licensed clinicians who are trained in EMDR, but having a hard time incorporating it into their practice, having difficulty with resourcing clients, or experiencing abreactions often

I have a gentler flexible, but still structured approach using Polyvagal & systems theories

I offer clinical supervision to licensed therapists interested in incorporating somatic practices into their clinical work

And supervision session fees go right into running the practice & providing free therapy to low income Black people

So you grow for a good cause

This is why learning how to regulate yourself (autonomic nervous system) & each other is so important

Unethical people in power love to manipulate by stressing us and triggering us into neurobiological survival responses because it makes us easier to influence & manipulate

I see so many people asking why aren’t people angry enough

Part of the reason why:
Everyone is being/has been literally stressed to an overwhelming degree and it’s literally impacting their emotional responses and critical thinking

I know someone who is about to undergo surgery

What’s the way to reduce Covid risk during a hospital stay in 2026?
