We witnessed the interception by the Libyan Coast Guard of an unseaworthy overcrowded black rubber boat carrying approx 30 people on March 1, while monitoring with our civilian aircraft #ALBATROSSUNO in the Libyan SAR zone. That is not rescue.
LCW monitored yesterday, Friday 27 February, the death of Laith Mohammed Muammar (11-year-old) following the explosion of a piece of unexploded ordnance left over from the conflict.

Today, our aircraft spotted a boat in distress with ~40 people on board. What followed was NOT a rescue. A Frontex aircraft was already on scene, complicit – from above – in an interception by the so-called Libyan coastguard.
The Libyan Red Crescent recovered 7 presumed migrant bodies, including 3 children, on a beach east of Tripoli after a boat wreck. Early 2026 has seen 540+ confirmed Mediterranean migrant deaths so far, with fears of hundreds more amid ongoing shipwrecks.
