I bet it will π
It makes me happy that Slay the Spire 2 is a Godot game π
I know it's a controversial opinion, but I honestly think it's a good thing.
IMO, we don't live anymore in a world where we can all buy multiple plastic boxes to access their monopolistic shop, where's there's a handfull of exclusive games.
I'd have loved to play this one but, I'm done buying consoles just to be able to play exclusive games.
I hope people will enjoy it though, it looks super fun π
100% d'accord.
That's how it should always be done π
Such an incredible waste.
And once again, the people who should take the blame are not those who end up being punished.
Which makes me think that there's very little chance to see the situation really improve...
NEW: Inside the failure of Highguard, which flopped so badly that developer Wildlight laid off most of its staff just two weeks after release.
Here's the story behind why people loved working at Wildlight, why Tencent pulled funding, and how it all fell apart: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
Very sad to hear that. With Nacon announcing they filed for bankruptcy, it feels that this week won't be the one where we don't hear about bad things happening in our industry π
Any chances to see a module for @alchemyrpg.bsky.social ? π
During 2017 #RPGaDay I mentioned the two universes I'd love to see adapted as a #TTRPG. I said "The Ice Company" and "Temeraire".
Almost 10 years later, one of them is going to become a reality thanks to @magpiegames.bsky.social and @naominovik.bsky.social π€©
That was my optimistic vision of their strategy and something I'd love to see happen (from them or anyone else). Maybe I'm alone thinking it'd be great, and everyone else wants a console-war and be forced to buy 5 machines to have access to whatever exclusive games they want to play π
Now suddenly, a game bought within this ecosystem feels more valuable as you can play it on multiple platforms, will be forward compatible with the next-gen Xbox console, who is an accessible, subsidised machine to let more people enter the ecosystem.
To me, this should have been: "See this game you love and own on 360? You can also play it on your Series X, PC, Xbox Rog Ally, and your smartphone. Freely.
But we guarantee you that nothing will run it better than a Series X for this price! Also, you don't have to pay anymore for Xbox Gold."
Doing that not only was not helping the vision (it's was going against it I'd argue) but it was also totally devaluing the Xbox Series and the player base there got nothing from that move apart from feeling forgotten (or even betrayed).
Yes and no. To me the good vision was the promise of buying a game ONCE and being able to play it anywhere you wanted.
But for that to be true, the way was definitely not to start selling Xbox games on PlayStation or Switch that you can then play... nowhere else!
Nice post :)
I think that, even if their execution is VERY questionable, it is time to move past the plastic box you're forced to buy to play 5 exclusives.
Especially in a world with resource shortage (AI not helping there), smartphones, 1000s of non-exclusive games releasing per year, etc.
Do you think the "Xbox Everywhere" was a bad idea?
I personally think that's what the world and our industry needs, but I'd love to get your opinion π
Ouais, j'aurais aimΓ© le voir finir la transition "play anywhere" / fin des gΓ©nΓ©rations de consoles avant de passer la torche perso.
I don't think anyone needs a new generation of console right now...
If youβre worried about the future of games, remember that your $ holds enormous sway. Support companies who actually care about the art and craft of making games, who put people first and value their employees & audiences. Support indies especially. The future doesnβt belong to greedy corporations
Je ne les enterrerais pas trop vite perso, mais 100% alignΓ© avec la description que tu fais de lui et de son leadership d'Xbox. Il me manquera perso dans le paysage vidΓ©o ludique.
Clairment la fin d'une Γ¨re.
Again, I cannot emphasize enough: do not go to the US even if you're privileged enough to have never been scared or worried of a border crossing in you're life. Do not go ESPECIALLY for something as optional & outrageously expensive as GDC.

Discord was going to use age verification that literally pipes your information straight to the fascist US government, until hackers exposed it.

Not surprising for Phil Spencer, way more for Sarah Bond πΆ
We'll see what happens to Xbox as it's at the middle of a transition that will, hopefully, bring their teams and the industry more stability.
Can't wait for this one, especially the coop mode π€©
"Still, "progress" is a... complicated word, often deployed by the rich and powerful to justify the systems and technologies they wish to impose on everybody else, hiding or downplaying their own self-interest."
