Why Rustin? Why Now? The shadow of the dysfunctional New Left is so long that it’s sometimes hard to see the light beyond it.

Since "The most straightforward solution, therefore, was massive investment in the kind of public works programs that had revitalized the American workforce a generation prior", I'm sure Rustin would have liked a GreenNewDealPlan.com

That's why the government has to do it directly as was done during the New Deal with the WPA, CCC, etc, eg GreenNewDealPlan.com

Their conclusion: "Green spending channeled through private firms alone is unlikely to build ground-up coalitions for climate policy."

Opinion | China Automates While America Hesitates

The key to long-term wealth of a country is labor productivity, and China is gaining a lead on the US because it is using AI and manufacturing together, instead of trying to suck in customers to get addicted to 'their' chatbot or replace white collar workers:

How to stop a dictator I spent months studying how authoritarians like Trump lose. The answer is shockingly simple.

I have spent the past several months studying the cutting-edge research on modern democracies that have defeated authoritarian leaders.

I've learned that the conventional wisdom on the topic is wrong β€”Β in ways that have clear implications for the US going forward

Does anyone know why we're still doing tariffs? The ridiculous policy has taken on a life of its own.

I think Noah Smith nails the explanation of why Trump loves tariffs:

"Although the tariffs had their origin in 1990s-era worries about trade deficits, they ended up as a way to make the Presidency more like a dictatorship. "

Trump aides struggle with how to spend $500 billion more on military Some senior officials resisted the decision to approve the major military spending increase, people familiar with the matter say.

This seems like it should be in The Onion, but unfortunately it's actually being planned:

Giridhardas explains that government doesn't self-promote, and so people forget/ignore the benefits of the state; corporate propagandists spend billions claiming only the market can work:

Punishing climate alarm didn’t just β€œappeal” to Pielke Jr and β€œanalysts” at The Breakthrough Institute.

They *actively collaborated* to establish the narrative that we have already β€œavoided the worst case climate scenario.”

This propaganda was then amplified by the right-wing & centrist press.
