Well, Duncan is case in point - just bought his on Kindle having consciously avoided the hardback. Actually find it quite vexing waiting for the paperback.
So is it just a kind of price discrimination? Want it early, you're going to have to pay the silly price?

Ditto, checking out until next week.
Last night I decided to wallow in a lot of JS Bach after the result. Other non-football pursuits are available

Like, good for those like yourself who are getting great use from LLMs (not me yet, but maybe I'm just slow/not in right job), but what would really help my life overall would be an automated laundry system/robot and there's little prospect of that at the moment

People on here were talking yesterday about AI maybe creating *increased* jobs, and if that happens aren't you going to Baumol your way to more personal services problems?

Ah, but those dependency ratios are only partly pensions etc, and partly real resources, so the contradiction is only indirect. Productivity boom would free up people to work in care etc, but that might still not be that attractive.
When we get the AI-enhanced care robots, then we'll be talking

Amongst all the other nonsense, have they not got a response already?! This decision was not beyond the wit of man to predict at least as a possibility. Or is the arrogance so deep they really hadn't considered losing?

I often think this - not just fought over, but fluid. Just wasn't that big a deal (obviously eased by status/money) to just go and live somewhere else.
Look at Romeo who gets effectively banished to a whole other (city)state!

And a lot of the scolds out there (often American) seem to reduce alcoholic drinks to merely alcohol (partly to reinforce, or maybe because of, the addicted-to-a-substance angle).
Disregading the tipsyness, wine is just nice! It's a complex, enjoyable (and culturally significant) drink!

Quite interesting how the AI slides from a claim about real stagnation to a different (afaik roughly true) claim in the second sentence about distribution.
Just like the real people you have to battle on this... it's learned to bait & switch or motte & bailey, whatever you want to call it

Still think Ed Miliband is one of the better fits for those criteria, but possibly because of 2 he both might not want it, and the oppositional press (Mail etc) already despises him for it (net zero). Plus issues of returning where once failed

True, but so does 4 - obviously presidential is a way away, but what decided it last time was what, 100,000 or so votes?
Might not need too much successful vote suppression to make a difference
(Though prob not for a possible blue wave midterm)
