We have a no marking policy. Students mark their own work and upload it to OneNote for staff to check. We only ask staff to mark assessments. We do have a dedicated feedback lesson timetabled per subject (weekly or fortnightly) during which students mark, correct and upload and ask questions.

We donβt use textbooks. HWs centrally written & solutions all done (we shared out as staff initially). In y13 tend to be exam qs. In y12 we focus on problem solving. We upload answers to OneNote. They mark/correct/upload. teacher does a quick check - easy to pick up poor habits and train them up!

2-4 hours. Matching class time is too much; students have 5 hours of A level contact time. X4 A Levels. Plus extra curricular lessons. They only have 4 free periods a week. We donβt feel comfortable asking them to do 20 hours a week. Usually a week for HW. All self-marked.

TO HOLD
So we're dust. In the meantime, my wife and I make the bed. Holding opposite edges of the sheet, we raise it, billowing, then pull it tight, measuring by eye as it falls into alignment between us. We tug, fold, tuck. And if I'm lucky, she'll remember a recent dream and tell me.
One day we'll lie down and not get up. One day, all we guard will be surrendered.
Until then, we'll go on learning to recognize what we love, and what it takes to tend what isn't for our having. So often, fear has led me to abandon what I know I must relinquish in time. But for the moment, I'll listen to her dream, and she to mine, our mutual hearing calling more and more detail into the light of a joint and fragile keeping.
One day we'll lie down and not get up.
One day, all we guard will be surrendered.
Until then, we'll go on learning to recognize
what we love, and what it takes
to tend what isn't for our having. - To Hold by Li-Young Lee

The Joy of Curiosity
Do you remember those days when every day brought you a new quest, a new story, a new fact, when you were unafraid to ask why, a thousand times why,
the way magic sparkled in your eyes every time you learned something new like an octopus has 3 hearts, and there is a sandstone formation that looks just like a wedding cake, and there is a kind of jellyfish which is immortal.
Remember that joy when you learned something for the first time
- like why is the sky so blue, what made the grass green,
what do you mean there is an island in Japan where the cats outnumber the people?
It is a kind of courage, is it not?
To be able to open your mind and to embrace your curiosity whether you are 2 or 82.
Forever learning because language and knowledge belongs to us all.
It is all a kind of joy, I believe.
To look out your window in awe at the world and think, what new astonishing, beautiful things will I get to learn about you today.
- Nikita Gill
