One single local BRT line in Oakland (AC Transit Tempo) serves more riders than the entire VTA Light Rail system, and has a Cost Effectiveness that rivals our top *regional* transit services
Bay Area should be super-funding East Bay BRT if they distributed funding based on objective metrics
Water color flyer for Make a Friend (on Transit) Day made by Alfred Twu. It shows three friendly people sitting on transit chatting with each other, wearing name tags. Mini personifications of a smiling BART train (with name tag) a bus and a ferry are also on board engaged in conversation. In the lap of a person is a smiling Caltrain akin to a lap-dog, and another person has a tote bag with a picture of a BART car face on it.
Make a Friend (On Transit) Day is next Wednesday! Join the fun and help pass out name tags at @bart.gov @caltrain.com, bus hubs, and @sfbayferry.com terminals that morning. And who knows, an hour of your time might help spark a lifelong friendship. Check it out docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

This is terribleβ¦
AND weβre so lucky to have AC Transit directors like @therealjeanwalsh.bsky.social and @sarahsyed.bsky.social who regularly ride buses, are directly aware of problems riders face, and seek to address them.
All transit board members should ride transit!
Huge win for transit: After a year of work, we finalized a bridge loan to avoid massive service cuts as we move toward the November regional revenue measure my legislation authorized.
Weβve worked for years to stabilize these systems. This loan is a critical step toward long-term stability.
Thank you @azul415.bsky.social @kqednews.kqed.org for highlighting the lived experiences of everyday bus riders. Elevating those stories helps ensure our transportation policies reflect the needs of the people who rely on them most. (4/4)
If MTC does not understand what it means to be poor in the Bay Area, then the system it governs will continue to work best for those who already have the most. Reform starts with lived experience informing policy. (3/4)
...we have to be honest about where power resides. The real power over who benefits from our transportation system does not lie with individual agencies β it lies with @mtcbata.bsky.social (2/4)
I talked to Silvia, Jenine, & Rene, bus riders in East Oakland. They can't access free transfers & discounts. We must reform fare policy so it doesn't cost more to be poor. This is a critical equity issue that @rideact.bsky.social will take up in early 2026. If we are serious about equity...(1/4)
This is completely unacceptable!
AC Transitβs hydrogen fleet has 43%-64% availability depending on model, leading to canceled bus runs and stops in the middle of service.
They must address this to retain/grow riders. Transit reliability is even more important to riders than speed or frequency.
One idea from BogotΓ‘ I can't stop thinking about: 24-hour mobile child care for parents working night shifts β bus drivers, recyclers who sort trash before dawn. Or child care that comes to a college student on exam day, or to a workplace that pays for it and gets a tax break
Subscribe to Transit Talk, my new newsletter to stay in touch on this and other thoughts on transit! Thank you! www.sarahfortransit.com
Can I count on your support to advance fixes to the unfair fare system by Wed Dec 10 at 4:30pm? You can send a comment to the Board requesting we place this item on the agenda by commenting here on Item 9A: Review of Agenda Planning Request Forms: actransit.granicusideas.com/meetings/830...
Transformβs Fair And Accessible Fares report highlights the problem and identifies ways that we can bring all riders along when we modernize fare payment systems, so riding transit is easier for everyone. transformca.org/fair-fares/ #FairFares
The bottom line is this: Transit should be easy to use. Savings should be easy to get. And every riderβno matter how they payβdeserves a fair deal.
My full statement and agenda request on Why AC Transit & Regional Leaders Need to Fix an Unfair Fare System: bit.ly/4iQ8xCS
#FairFares #TransitEquity
If my request advances on December 10, 2025, the @rideact.bsky.social Board will discuss fare policy and consider taking action at an upcoming Board Meeting in early 2026. My priority is clear: a system where riders do not pay more simply because they earn less or lack access to banking.
New Clipper benefits provide incredible savings if you can access them. π ππ
But many riders who rely on AC Transit π pay cash π΅ and miss out. I'm pushing for a fairer system because everyone deserves the same access to savings. #FairFares
oof thanks for raising this
It seems bad that only $668 million of California's $31 billion transportation budget is for public transit capital projects next year.
HSR gets another $798 million.
$1.45 billion out of $31 billion. It's a hidden form of climate arson.
Wellstone Dems @wellstonedem.bsky.social had a meeting on transit funding. Regional measure in 2026 will cover the basics, but to fully restore and improve service, we also need:
- State funding
- Local funding measures
- Shift county/state highway $ to transit

After so many shameful low points from him and for our country, this one is uniquely embarrassing and dangerous for all Americans.
This is no way to speak to anyone. Especially not to an audience of world leaders who are guests of our nation and our great city of New York.
very troubling
A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesnβt like what they say.
This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.
All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.
thanks! @fernkhahn.com great concept! I've passed along to @rideact.bsky.social staff.
Great mock up of how we can more clearly communicate. I've shared your observations and suggestions with staff.
No-cost and reduced cost transfers and open payment are basic features our region should have delivered many years ago. Inept project delivery and the lack of accountability costs people who ride transit more and lowers trust in government. We must do better. ππππβ΄οΈ
Re: MTA v. Duffy, No. 25 Civ. 1413 (S.D.N.Y.) Dear Erin: We write with respect to the above-referenced litigation brought by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority ("MTA") against the U.S. Department of Transportation ("DOT"), U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, the Federal Highway Administration ("FHWA"), and Executive Director of the FHWA, Gloria Shepherd, to provide you with information concerning (1) the litigation risk that DOT faces in defending the Secretary's February 19, 2025 decision to terminate the New York City Central Business District Tolling Program ("CBDTP") agreement, and (2) a process for terminating the CBDTP agreement outside of the current litigation for DOT to consider. As discussed below, there is considerable litigation risk in defending the Secretary's February 19, 2025 decision against plaintiffs' claims under the Administrative Procedure Act, that the decision was contrary to law, pretextual rocedurally arbitrary and capricious, and violated due process. For the reasons outlined below, it is unlikely that Judge Liman or further courts of review will accept the argument that the CBDTP was not a statutorily authorized "value pricing" pilot under the Value Prising Pilot Program (" ar FHWA may, however, be able to properly terminate the CBDTP value pricing pilot pursuant to established Office of Management and Budget ("OMB") regulations concerning the termination of cooperative agreements. Termination of the CBDTP agreement pursuant to these OMB regulations would still allow FHWA to end the CBDTP for the Secretary's stated reasons, but would do so as a matter of changed agency priorities rather than arguing the CBDTP was not statutorily authorized in the first instance. Importantly, DOT can seek termination of the agreement pursuant to the OMB regulations in addition to, and not in place of, defending the rationale laid out in the Secretary's letter. So, uh, it certainly looks like DOJ intended to file a letter to Judge Liman in MTA v. Duffy, butβ¦.it accidentally filed a letter containing its legal advice to the Department of Transportation instead
