A question about Falconer's formula. The standard formula is:
h^2=2*(r_MZ - r_DZ)
My question is: can I replace the mono- and dizygotic twin correlations with terms for full-sibs and half-sibs?
It's the same ratio of genetic relatedness, so I don't see why not. What am I missing?
We're excited to be recruiting an NSF funded postdoc to work in the Villanea lab at CU Boulder. We're specifically interested in candidates who want to work at the intersection of population genetics, ancient DNA, and computer modeling. Please RT

Fun news! @gcbias.bsky.social and I are teaching a 2-week online population genetics workshop this summer to raise money for the Center for Population Biology at UC Davis. We're trying to gauge interest -- please fill this out if you might be interested! And please share broadly!
Honestly, yeah, LFG. Maybe this is meant to feed biotech AI slop but we can outcompete them with good scientific proposals. If youβre interested in a post-doc applying neural networks to better integrate ancient DNA to demographic models reach out to me. Iβll help you tool the application for βAIβ.
Please share: we're hiring a new tenure-track faculty member to our Department of Genetics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

For PIs hiring post-docs, do you usually as for a letter of recommendation (or letters) in addition to the CV and cover letter?
I'm looking to update the SRA growth curve for the intro lecture of my computational genomics course, and I noticed that the data traces provided by SRA end in 2024 ... Does anyone have an idea what's up here or how to get more up-to-date data? www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sra/docs/sra...
Please spread the word β a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship is available in my group funded by the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) to perform a study testing the contribution of functional non-coding variants in glutamatergic neurons to autism. 1/3
We are recruiting!
If you like evolutionary biology, microbial genomics, and host-pathogen interactions we have a PhD opening at @ugiatucl.bsky.social using population-scale metagenomics to map global phage diversity and uncover evolutionary signatures that could point to new antimicrobials.
Wisconsin Evolution is accepting applications for our Seminar Series' Early Career Scientist Award. Come share your evolution research and visit UW-Madison's evolution community. Open to grad students and postdocs (<5 yrs post PhD) from outside UW-Madison.
Apply by Dec 15th here: shorturl.at/4a4O6
Absolutely buzzing about a figure one of my students just sent me! I love it when good data is amplified by good visualization.
Weβre hoping to expand the functionality of EpipwR, so let us know what additions youβd like to see in v2! #ASHG25
You can use EpipwR now! www.bioconductor.org/packages/rel... #ASHG25
Please come by poster #8068 today and speak with my collaborator Jackson Barth about EpipwR, our new EWAS power calculator for both quantitative and case/control studies! #ASHG25
We're excited to be recruiting an NIH funded postdoc to work in the Coop lab at UC Davis. We're specifically interested in candidates who are want to work at the intersection of human genetics, GWAS, and population genetics modeling. Please RT
New preprint out with Brenna Henn, led by two fantastic grad students in our labs! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Gotta get you in for a prompt engineering tutorial in my bioinformatics course..
My review of computational methods for anthropological genetics with @kwittadna.bsky.social is out for the Yearbook issue of AJBA.
We talk about all sorts of cool methods that YOU could use too!
Also check out this great figure we commissioned from @janey1216.bsky.social
