Hey Providence, the parking ban will be lifted on Saturday, February 28 at 5:00 pm.
PVD people with snow questions, here's a FAQ from Mayor Smiley's office:
www.providenceri.gov/snowstorm. Big thanks to everyone who is helping us recover. PVD employees, workers from out of state, local business owners, and the many volunteers helping us dig out, we see you and we're so gratetful.
And if you want to hem and haw about “electability” or whatever, know this: your irrational fear is going to hand the future, or what’s left of it, over to some of the most heinous and dangerous people alive.
Get your shit together and get into the actual fight. You can’t hide forever.
Also Providence: got a list of shovel squads for you neighborlyactions.substack.com/p/neighborly...
PVD will not be picking up trash this week. Garbage and recycling pick up will resume on Monday, March 2.

#UPDATE: Gov. Dan McKee said that the travel ban in Rhode Island will end at noon on Tuesday. https://www.wpri.com/weather/winter-weather/winter-weather-weekend-feb-20-23/
I have to revise - we got out there and assessed. Drifts are 3 feet but the snowfall seems more like 2 feet and change. Elmgrove has been plowed, yay, but most of the side streets around here haven't been. It'll happen. For now, the residents of Elmway Street are staying put.
I shared PVD snowstorm updates in today's Ward 2 letter: mailchi.mp/jilldavidson...
TL;DR: no trash pick up tomorrow 2/24, we're still in an emergency status, parking ban still in force, email me if you're in Ward 2 & need help, power outage info. Didn't say but now know: no school @ PPSD tomorrow.
Here's hoping! What we know: no trash/recycling pickup tomorrow (Tuesday, February 24). Don't even try to put them out (not sure where you'd put them)! Thanks, everyone.
We have at least 3 feet on the eastern side of my street, which is where my house is, near the JCC/Brown Stadium/Nathan Bishop.
As always, call 911 if you or someone you're with is having a medical emergency.
If you have other useful info to add, please do. I truly hope that everyone stays warm and safe, and please join me to express gratitude to everyone out there working to clear the streets, keep the power on, and more.
What to do if you lose power #3:
If your heat stops working, close all doors and if you're with other people, stay close together.
Stay put if you can. If you need a warming center, here's a map of Providence locations:
www.providenceri.gov/pema/warming...
What to do if you lose power #2:
Try not to open the refrigerator/freezer to preserve freshness. And please be careful about what you consume after the power returns. Here's a guide to food safety during a power outage:
www.foodsafety.gov/food-safety-...
What to do if you lose power #1:
Unplug electronics/small appliances.
Turn light switches/lamps off (you can leave one on to see when the power comes back on).
What to do now ahead of a possible power outage:
Fill containers with drinking water. You can melt snow for non-drinking uses but you don't want to drink that.
Charge up phones, computers, etc.
Round up your flashlights, and if you use candles, PLEASE don't leave them lit unattended.
If someone in your home relies on life-sustaining medical equipment, call Rhode Island Energy at 855-743-1101 to join the Notice of Life-Sustaining Equipment list.

As of now, about 40,000 people in RI have lost power.
I've lived in PVD for 21 years and have experienced only brief power outages--but I grew up in rural CT where losing power happened frequently. Here's a thread with info from RI Energy, what to do now ahead of a power outage, and what to do if it happens (hope it doesn't, but just in case!).

To assist residents affected by the cold temperatures, warming centers will be open to the public. For a full list of warming centers, visit www.providenceri.gov/pema/providence-warming-centers/.
Stay put at home. Watch out for your neighbors, and also remind your neighbors to move their cars! Here's a list of alternate parking locations for cars with overnight parking stickers: www.providenceri.gov/public-works.... If you have space on your property, be kind and offer it to those in need.
As you've heard, this storm is going to be big, with lots of wind. If you haven't already, make sure you're prepared for a power outage. If that happens, contact Rhode Island Energy at 855-743-1102.

Providence gardeners, this is a wonderful funding opportunity!
Fantastic story - lots to learn and makes you wonder what we're not doing now that we may regret later.
I likely first saw this when I was four years old. Now I see Reverend Jackson's impact on my soul. May his memory be a blessing.
Pawtucket friends, I am so sorry about the gun violence at the Lynch Arena. My heart goes out to the families of those killed, the people who were injured, everyone who was present, and the emergency services and law enforcement personnel onsite. No more guns. We have to make our society safer by pushing through whatever stranglehold easy access to firearms has on our society. Peace and healing to everyone.
