Saw this piece at the weekend and it is AMAZING!
Just completed, after quite a dilemma over what size and material the stand base should be (clearly Goshawks are opinionated about these things!).
She/he (colour shifting Lamberts glass) is available immediately, DM for details. But, yโknow, Iโm not in a hurryโฆ
#stainedglass #goshawk
Thanks John - painting the blossoms to keep this glass piece light and airyโฆ clear baroque glass andPebeo 160, a mixture of translucents and outliner (for texture)
Outside it is snowing loudly sideways. Inside, the studio is lit with springโฆ
Thank you!
Yesterday I was reminded of this #art piece I was commissioned to make a few years ago, extending the boundaries of stained #glass by setting Little Grebes (aquatic #bird species) in an open-edge panel to represent the habitat where they are most freeโฆ
Should I make more like this?
Would you mind my posting a picture or two? I wonโt tag you (unless youโd like me to of course) but Iโm working on ideas for a couple of other โedgelessโ pieces at the moment ๐ค
Lovely to hear from you! Thank you so much - I was just looking at my photos of the grebes a couple of days ago, and wondering how they were getting on ๐
It really does!
Hi Tracey - thank you! The base is Snowdonia slate, from a quarry just outside Blaenau Ffestiniog. I work with a local engineering shop when I need stand armatures, they are very good at shaping weird bits of steel to precise plans ๐
A joyful moment that never gets old: someone loves my Godwit enough to offer the ultimate accolade to an artist - to take it home!
#art is a piece of soul made visible, in metal and stone and #glass. Welcome to my heart-family, unknown friend- and enjoy the effects of light on the glassโฆ
If you love #glassart or #birds or are already following my #art (hi and I love you) the SWLA @ Mall galleries opens next week, and my Black-tailed Godwit #sculpture will be there - online preview (sculpture page - scroll down for the Godwit!) here buyart.mallgalleries.org.uk/swla-2025/?_...
๐ thank you so much
Thank you so much! Iโm looking for a public display opportunity for them, hoping they might help people to see these amazing birds just a little differentlyโฆ
Birds in stained glass, freestanding #art or wall sculptures, rarely window panels. My birds are celebrations, explanations, rants and sometimes tears; but like the birds that inspire them, they are all beautiful dancers-with-lightโฆ
โWe Were Angelsโ four Herring Gull kinetic sculpture in stained glass, hanging from a gold-leaf and gemstone icthys frame
Black-tailed Godwit, stained glass sculpture in flight, on show at SWLA natural Eye exhibition, Mall Galleries in London end October 2025
โKierkegaardโs Clownsโ large double-layer stained glass sculpture featuring four Atlantic Puffin in an island seascape
โCritically Endangeredโ Slender-billed Curlew, imagined in transparent and translucent textured stained glass
I create birds in stained glass, mostly as freestanding or wall sculptures, rarely as window panels. They may be celebrations, explanations, rants or tears but like the birds that inspire them, they are all beautiful dancers-with-lightโฆ
A few more pictures of โWe Were Angelsโ, just becauseโฆ
Latest kinetic sculpture โWe Were Angelsโ available to buy or exhibit - I love it in my home, but it seems selfish not to offer others the chance to enjoy the light glowing from these birdsโฆ
Thank you John!
Current WIP and a previous super-seabird for #superseabirdsunday
Some pieces come together quickly, and some take a few iterations to grow to maturity. The Herring Gulls piece, โWe Were Angelsโ, gathers towards its finale; glowing with a little sunlight as I adjust the hanging points and sight lines to make sure they balance each other.
As the Yule (star)dust begins to settle, tomorrow will be a good day to get back into my studio and pick up my stained glass #WIP โUrban Angelsโ once more. They are still burning in my head and heart and hands, not quite fully materialised just yetโฆ
Someone needs to invent some kind of online calculator whereby we Brits can put in our recent healthcare appointments/meds/experiences and itโll calculate what it would cost on average in the USA. Just to hammer home how bloody lucky we are to have the NHS and how fiercely we need to protect it.
ยฃ2 a card, any number of any design (I have a series of cards using photos of my glass birds too!). Free postage in the UK!
Itโs #wrensday and I am in my happy place (the ordered chaos of a #glass studio with -erm- about 3 pieces in development..!). Hereโs a contribution to the day (blank greetings cards available!)
This stained glass Black-tailed Godwit on a carved slate stand is available. He stands 45cm/18โ tall (& just a little more than that toes-to-bill-tip).
This pattern will be a numbered edition of 10 (although every #bird is always unique because #glass).
DM for price and shipping options.
Black-tailed Godwit : heโs a big lad!
Today, โCritically Endangeredโ became โExtinctโ.
#birds heartbreak in my lifetime.

Thank you! Thatโs me - never knowingly under-detailedโฆ ๐
It was huge fun to make - and totally inspired by that *perfect* glassโฆ I was trying for the look and feel of a plate in an old bird guide, those lovely paintings where the birds *just happen* to be showing you all their ID features by accident ๐
