And to be specific with respect to trans issues, I donβt know that he spoke publicly about transgender rights (although he may have). But I recall at least one private conversation where he pushed back against anti-trans sentiments. Article below is good.

He was far from perfect, but he was ahead of his time on many issues. As a young queer woman working for him years ago, I recall multiple occasions when he pushed back against more socially conservative voices with respect to LGBTQ issues.

I worked for Rev. Jackson in the early 2010s, and he was at the front of my mind a few years later in 2017 in Charlottesville when religious leaders (and many others) stood up to violent white supremacists. I imagine he would have been standing beside folks in Minneapolis had he been able.
One of my favorite parts of that speech
βWe believe in a government thatβs a tool of our democracy in service to the public, not an instrument of the aristocracy in search of private wealth. We believe in government with the consent of the governed, of, for, and by the people.β - Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., 1941-2026

Rest in power, Reverend. He was as kind and compassionate as he was brilliant and wise.
Thank you, this is great! And thank you especially for the thoughtful approach to what makes sense at the BOS level.
(I have no idea about whatever else is happening here. Not going to do doc review for fun on a Sunday. But Iβll note that people often use existing documents as templates and/or type the date wrong.)

Oh look what Kyrsten Sinemaβs been up to
Thinking back to when I was younger and people said not to have photos of yourself online in a swimsuit lest they been seen by creeps or future employers. How quaint. Now Grok will just undress you regardless.
βWith President Trump running our country into disaster, no one here or there needs him trying to run Venezuela or trying to distract from his disastrous economic record by sending our soldiers into danger on false and unlawful pretenses.β
Last night we sang our hearts out and raised $1,075 for the 6th annual holiday mutual aid drive! SO much love & gratitude to @adeleforcongress.bsky.social for hosting and for ALL of the support! AND Thank you @tomperriello.bsky.social for joining us and supporting as well!
We take care of us. β€οΈ
Itβs there too!
(Yes, this was originally planned as a fundraiser for my campaign. I may not be running, but I couldnβt disappoint those looking forward to antifascist folk music!)
A flyer for an antifascist sing-along tomorrow in Charlottesville to support Zyahna Bryantβs holiday mutual aid drive. The event is from 6-8 p.m. at Birdhouse restaurant, 711 Henry Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The flyer suggests a $15 donation, which you can make to $zyahnab on Cashapp or Zbryant01 on Venmo.
Happening tomorrow night! Support Zyahnaβs Holiday Mutual Aid Drive while mingling, snacking, and singing.
10/ Words cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who has supported me and this campaign. Thank you for believing in me. Letβs keep working.
9/ While I may no longer be a candidate, I am not going anywhere. I will spend the weeks and months ahead working to get Tom elected. I hope those of you who have supported me will join in that effort. I canβt wait to see you out and about in our beautiful district.
8/ I promised to fight for you. I could not have kept that promise by dropping out reflexively or quietly. I could not have kept that promise by dropping out if I didnβt believe there was someone better right now, someone you can be excited to elect as your next congressman. Tom is that person.
7/ I am supporting Tom because I believe that he will also fight for real change once in office.
6/ Tom is our best chance to win, and to make that win more than a victory for the status quo. Itβs not only that he has flipped the 5th before. Itβs not only that he has the experience and resources to put up the fight we need right now.
5/ There is a lawless authoritarian in the White House who is literally and metaphorically bulldozing what belongs to the American people. Most members of Congress are still acting like itβs business as usual. John McGuire is cheering on the destruction.
4/ Why him and why now? Because, quite simply, this is not the time to [bleep] around. People are struggling to get by. Rural hospitals are closing.
3/ I can now tell you with confidence that I believe Tom is the real deal. He will fight to make this country work for everyone, not just corporations and billionaires. He will fight for our democracy.
2/ You may notice that the picture of us above is not amazing! It was taken on my decaying iPhone 8, after 10:30 p.m., after Tom and I had each had a very long day. This is because, despite his very long day, Tom reached out, offered to meet, and allowed me to grill him on a variety of topics.
A photo of Adele and Tom. We are both smiling but look a little tired!
When I woke up yesterday morning, I believed that I was the best candidate to fight for and flip Virginiaβs 5th District. By last night, I knew that I would be ending my campaign to endorse Tom Perriello. /1
Yet another way this administration is hurting rural communities and jeopardizing rural healthcare. Sloppy and careless policy (if Iβm being charitable about the motives).
Usually when you do a deeper dive on legal questions, things get more complicated and nuanced. But the more I read about the boat strikes, the only added complexity is keeping track of all the layered ways in which they are likely murder.
