Henry Badowski - "My Face" [England, New Wave](1982) The whole album Life Is A Grand is prolly the best forgotten new wave record of the whole period. Recently reissued for the first time in 40-plus years. A true gem.

(1) In my experience, when data management doesn't happen until the end of a project, about 80% of DM is detective work (what are these values, why is data missing, how do we handle this messy data)?
This way of working is tedious, often frustrating, and can lead to lost or misunderstood data.

Yep, there are services for general tasks that youβd subscribe to for a longer time & then more specialized services like Khan Academy that youβd subscribe to on a short-term or seasonal basis
Thankfully my company has deployed a portal with multiple LLMs & keeps updating as new models become available. I can imagine the decision fatigue of individuals trying to decide which services to subscribe to.

April Fool's day.
Remember that sense of suspicion we feel today, how critical we are about everything everyone is telling you, how we fact check even the big accounts we normally blindly believe and retweet.
We should do do this more often ;)
Havenβt listened to this album in years but looking at the artwork reminded me that back in the day we had to cover our textbooks in brown paper bags so I colored this design onto one of them to make it look less drab #nostalgia
The library and the post office are the only two systems we have that circulate things widely and to everyone, no matter who they are or what they believe. The library is the only one that, for now, is not forced to pay for itself at point of sale. Attacks on IMLS are attacks on every one of us.
Happy birthday Orra White Hitchcock. The prolific artist and illustrator, notable for 1000s of paintings and engravings for her projects and her husband, geologist Edward Hitchcock's, publications, was born today in 1796.
@straightwhitejc.bsky.social you should interview this author about the book

Since the president has signed an EO making English the official language of the United States, here is the first non-English copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed in German just days after July 4, 1776. We have always been multilingual.

A vibrant illustration of diverse women and girls in science, including various ethnicities and abilities. They collaborate in a modern lab, using microscopes, beakers, and computers. Some discuss ideas, others conduct experiments. Symbols like a globe, equations, and DNA strands.
Today is International Day for Women and Girls in Science. Given the massive onslaught on DEI initiatives in the US right now, this day feels incredibly important to make a note of.
Science is improved by diversity, and diversity does not happen on its own.

I wrote about the importance of "prebunking," in light of rumors that Elon Musk may have purchased $40 million in Super Bowl ads to spread misinformation about the "fraud" and "corruption" in this vital agency. I hope you will read and share asharangappa.substack.com/p/prebunking...
I was led to believe by R.E.M. that I would feel a lot better about this.
"I think when people understand what's been happening [to librarians], they will feel the violation personally, as well."
Sarah Jessica Parker hopes people will create a more robust community of support for librarians after seeing Kim A. Snyder's new documentary.

They need to split the difference & hand leadership of the House Oversight Committee to any random 50yo Gen Xer. I swear our generation has been robbed by these geriatrics that refuse to retire & millennials jumping into the roles when those boomers eventually die.
They werenβt relevant to my major but I tried to find interesting classes to fulfill science & world culture requirements:
- Geology of National Parks
- History of Rock & Roll: Punk Rock
- Intro to Forensic Science
