Fears of ICE Surge Galvanize Vermonters to Respond | Seven Days The threat of a large-scale immigration enforcement surge in Vermont has galvanized elected leaders and community organizers to prepare with a greater sense of urgency.

A string of violent incidents involving U.S. immigration agents in Minneapolis has prompted Vermont officials & local organizers to prepare in case a similar enforcement surge is aimed at them.

Vermont forbids police departments from collaborating with federal immigration authorities.

If only people had paid closer attention to those warning us that the means to challenging every election result they don't agree with has already been put into place in many states by the GOP.

Sadly not true. ICE holds ~500 people in the Plymouth County jail in MA, ~150 people in the Strafford County jail in NH, ~200 people in a federal prison in Berlin, NH, and a few dozen at four county jails through USMS contracts, in Maine (Portland & Wiscasset) and Vermont (Burlington & Swanton).

I have received numerous reports of a large delivery of unmarked vehicles to the ICE facility in Burlington. We need answers now.

These days I seriously wonder if any of us have "guaranteed citizenship" anymore.

"Voluntary" has often been a vague and abused term within the existing paths we already have to citizenship through enlistment. I served with more than a few immigrants who were surprised to learn a few months into enlistment that they weren't required to join the military to become a citizen.

Remember how we made the Irish immigrants sign up to fight in the civil war as soon as they got off the boat in NY?

Military servitude should never be a requirement as a path to citizenship. Period.

This is just insane. It’s only a matter of time before DHS kills another innocent person here.

None of our states deserve to, though. Canada has stood by us through everything, even when they didn't agree with what we were doing: ALL Americans bear responsibility for allowing our collective betrayal of our most trusted ally. We owe them to fight to fix it first.
