Rebecca Solnit Says the Left’s Next Hero Is Already Here
"The great majority of people on Earth support climate action. The obstacles are not technological. They’re political. The fossil-fuel industry and the rich and powerful and governmental figures who either are or serve the fossil-fuel industry are what’s holding us back."

You go to the governor, and you say, ‘Hey, Governor, you have this problem. Utilities want business as usual. The innovators want to deploy their innovations. What is your opinion on how we get through this?’ And she’s like, ‘I don’t have any expertise in this area. Don’t make me make the decision.’ And you’re like, ‘Great, you’ve got Doreen Harris that runs nyserda. Why don’t you outsource it to her? She’s super smart.’ And Doreen is like, ‘We do research and development. We don’t want to make those decisions at nyserda.’ And then you’ve got Rory Christian running the Public Service Commission. And Rory is like, ‘I don’t want to make that decision either. I’m going to relegate it to the staff of the New York Public Service Commission. New York Public Service Commission’s like, ‘Well, we think everything should go much more slowly.’

N.Y. Climate Action councilmember: High utility costs caused by U.S. gas exports
Dr. Robert Howarth joins Capital Tonight.
Our NY climate law is NOT the main cause of inflation in energy prices: US exports of LNG play a far larger role. Read this and more in Susan Arbetter's write up of the Spectrum TV interview she recently did with me.

🤷🏻♀️ Note: I did not read the whole section of the NYISO report, but the examples they give are limited to green H2 turbines and SMRs. I think this means that their imaginations are a bit limited and/or they don’t know either.

#NewWord “DEFR” = Dispatchable Emission-Free Resource
An acronym used in the NYISO Resource Outlook for the unknown tech & system that can be used to cover the dunkelflaute in a clean energy grid. (My words.)

Sam Alito has an oil money problem
30 percent of Alito’s individual stock portfolio is directly tied to fossil fuels.
The Supreme Court has decided to hear a major climate case against fossil fuel companies
Alito has not recused himself, despite owning nearly $200,000 in fossil fuel stocks—including in Phillips 66 and ConocoPhillips, which are being sued in cases that would be directly affected by a SCOTUS ruling

Good morning with good news: China's solar generation skyrocketed ~44% to 1192 TWh in 2025, compared to 839 TWh in 2024.
Its wind jumped 13% to 1126 TWh in 2025.
China's solar generated more electricity than its wind for a year for the first time in 2025!
S&W surge since 2015 is WOW!

I have heard over and over that wind power happens at night, so it complements solar production. I pulled up the CAISO 2025 data and sure enough, hourly output is 50% higher at night than in the day. (annual totals, may differ by season)

Fossil fuel pollution’s effect on oceans comes with huge costs » Yale Climate Connections
A new study details the vast price society is paying for burning coal, oil, and gas.
A new paper led by @bbastien.bsky.social estimates that accounting for climate pollution's impact on the oceans via the one-two punch of warming & acidification nearly doubles the social cost of carbon (which the Trump EPA thinks is $0). My new @climateconnections.bsky.social article & 🧵 (1/8):
