I'd say coding the rules for each type of element. Made my brain twist many times, mostly because of the pure spaghetti code that are the functions I wrote for interacting with the matrix.

thinking of making a falling sand game using javascript, but not sure how to store and access each pixel and give it physics and rules (example: if there's air under me, i go down) all without it becoming a laggy unoptimized mess that stops responding and freezes after 2 seconds....
