Defending street parking for commerce ignores that a 2-meter tall SUV completely hides the business behind it.
Car bloat creates physical barriers. Human-scale transit keeps sightlines clear and storefronts inviting.

Have your say on a 30km/h city speed limit proposals for Cork city
It is now time for the public to have their say on proposals for lower speed limits in Cork city, says Cllr PETER HORGAN, Chair of the Transport ...
We agree with @horganp.bsky.social. The streets where we live are not just routes for traffic; they are places where children walk to school, older people cross to the shop, and communities meet.

A requirement that cyclists wear helmets and hi-vis would be a challenge for bike-share companies
The government seems to be considering making helmets and hi-vis mandatory for people using some category of bikes, though itβs not totally clear which.
"Jose says that the Department of Transport officials appear to be confused this week." Perhaps an understatement given the many conflicting and confusing statements around mandatory helmets and high-hiz this week.

Helmets and hi-vis clothing to be made mandatory for e-bikes and e-scooter users
Cabinet will sign off on plans to explicitly ban the use of scramblers on roads this morning.
There are only car-brained gobshites in Government. Paint and plastic for protection. Now they've moved onto victim blaming the most vulnerable on our streets. Meanwhile motorists can still drive at any speed they like around towns and cities. www.thejournal.ie/e-bikes-scoo...

Parents embrace cargo bikes for school and work commute: βIt costs nothing to runβ
Santry-based Shane Farrell loves the convenience of the cargo bike
As a cargobike owner since 2022 I have to say they are true car replacements, life would be far more complex and costly withour ours.
We would have bought a second car by now!

1/ The greenway & Marina is becoming an almost no go area at weekends because of pig-ignorant people walking 4 & 5 abreast across it ignoring signs. 7 year old cycling about 8-10kph coming up behind large group of 8 - I ding the bell, she dings the bell, I say "can we get by please?" <nothing> ....

More than β¬50m funding allocated to greenways and active travel in Cork
βThis continuation of a high level of funding for active travel will have a real impact"
Funding matters, but Cork needs political will most of all, and politicians brave enough to back it. @fiannafailparty.bsky.social @social-democrats.bsky.social
