AI agents pose untold risk to humanity. We must act to prevent that future | David Krueger The pieces are falling into place for autonomous artificial intelligence. We must stop unregulated development

It’s time for humanity to wake up and smell the looming crisis, and put an end to the unregulated development of increasingly powerful, autonomous, unconstrained AI.

My brother, on AI agents:

Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X

I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together.
This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.

AIs can’t stop recommending nuclear strikes in war game simulations Leading AIs from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google opted to use nuclear weapons in simulated war games in 95 per cent of cases

AI keeps recommending nuclear strikes when put into wargame tests, a new study finds... which is... alarming. By me for @newscientist.com

I have to give Anthropic credit for recognizing that deploying unreliable AI in AWS is not strategic for the future of AI. But there's a very fine line between DSS and AWS in practice due to automation bias, if they don't believe it's reliable for the latter, it's not reliable for the former either.

Is AI inherently bad? Of course not.

The question is: WHO controls it & for what purpose?

Does anyone believe that the richest people on Earth are investing hundreds of billions in AI to improve life for ordinary people, eliminate poverty & solve global warming?

I doubt it.

Fundraisers warn of β€˜catastrophic’ drop in donations to Gaza since ceasefire β€˜The world thinks Palestinians don’t need help any more,’ aid organiser says, despite desperate need as winter nears Fundraisers collecting for Palestinian civilians in Gaza are seeing a β€œcatastrophic” drop-off in donations since the ceasefire was announced in October. Donations collected by volunteers and funnelled to needy families living in temporary shelters and struggling with illness, hunger and malnutrition have been harder to raise since then, according to organisers, many of whom have been running volunteer initiatives for Palestinians in Gaza on third-party crowdfunding platforms over the past two years. Peter Thiel is obsessed with the Antichrist β€” but what does he actually mean when he talks about it?

This week @gilduran.com joins @parismarx.com to discuss how Thiel casts his enemies as the Antichrist to distract from Silicon Valley’s anti-human project.

Opinion | You May Already Be Bailing Out the AI Business Washington is treating the industry as if it’s too big to fail, even as the market sends lukewarm signals.

This week Open AI walked back a call for the govt to backstop financing for its trillion dollar investments in data centers. This was only the tip of the iceberg; a slow bailout for AI firms is already underway. Read more from @ambakak.bsky.social and I in @wsj.com: www.wsj.com/opinion/you-...

I wanted ChatGPT to help me. So why did it advise me how to kill myself? ChatGPT wrote a woman a suicide note and another AI chatbot role-played sexual acts with children, BBC finds.

β€˜But the chatbot warns her that other people might be blamed for her death and she should make her wishes clear. It drafts a suicide note for her, which reads: "I, Victoria, take this action of my own free will. No one is guilty, no one has forced me to."’

+1. We should be seeing consumers, employees, and investors revolt.

And I believe we *can* and *will* be seeing more of this. People walking away. People demanding real mitigation: not doing the thing.

Public awareness and pressure on each of these actors strengthens their resolve. Be part of it.
