Talking about Suicide:10 Tools (TAS:10) is a CPD certified training course where participants learn ten tools and the confidence and competence to have a safe, sensitive and non-judgemental conversation with someone they are worried about who may be thinking of suicide.

Talking about Suicide:10 Tools (TAS:10) was created by Ann Feloy, in memory of her son, and Rose Rowkins of Start the Conversation.

We trialled the suicide prevention ‘Talking about Suicide:10 Tools’ T4T with in-house training staff at Sanctuary Housing Association where they will roll out the training to up to 11,000 of their staff right across the UK.

This funding has enabled us to develop a Training for Trainers ‘T4T’ model so that the sessions can be delivered going forward by in-house staff, face to face. The work has involved developing training manuals and videos to help staff learn how to deliver Dr SAMS themselves.”

Ann Feloy, Founder & CEO, said: "I wanted to ensure sustainability and a way to scale the Dr SAMS programme to reach as many medical schools and universities as possible..

The three year initiative includes delivery of the two part programme by Olly's Future trainers, as well as in-house UCL staff learning how to teach the sessions to their students themselves.

Future doctors at @ucl.ac.uk Medical School are learning ten suicide prevention tools and ten self-care and resilience techniques by attending our Dr SAMS (Suicide Awareness in Medical Students) programme, thanks to funding from the Fishmongers Livery Company.

Daffodils are a sign of spring, of new beginnings and the promise of hope for the future - so important for those bereaved. By displaying daffodils on Valentine’s Day we hope to encourage understanding and empathy.

The #London Borough of #Bromley invited us to deliver this training as part of their Bromley GP Registrar Programme, an innovative scheme providing the fundamental foundations required to become a competent and confident General Practitioner.

Ensuring our GPs know how to talk about suicide to their patients is crucial. Our wonderful trainers went to Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington, Kent, recently to deliver ‘Talking about Suicide:10 Tools’ to trainee and newly qualified GPs.

We're campaigning for crucial changes. Mandatory core curriculum training in suicide prevention for all medical students across the UK, as well as for nursing and paramedics students and a Duty of Care for higher education institutions to support students' mental wellbeing.

Ann Feloy meets with Liz Twist MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Suicide and Self-Harm, with Doug Cave of the Learn Network and Jaquie Shanahan from the Forthe100 group to campaign for crucial changes. The group sits in an office in the Houses of Parliament with a view of Big Ben through the window behind.

Oskar Schortz, Vice-Chair of Olly’s Future, Ann Feloy, CEO and Founder, and Prof Faye Gishen, Director of UCL Medical School, were invited to No 10 Downing Street in 2024 to talk to Policy Unit advisors about their campaign for suicide prevention training for all medical students.
