Itβs always a great pleasure to shape a scholar. It has been a particular honor to shape @omfleming.bsky.social into the amazing scholar he has become. Very proud of him & looking forward to his career progress. He is will be a leading researcher in health in 5-10 years. @davidslusky.bsky.social.
Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.
Whirlwind tour! So glad to host @davidslusky.bsky.social !
Langston Hughes β βDreamsβ (1922)
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.
April Rain Song. Let the rain kiss you Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops Let the rain sing you a lullaby The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk The rain makes running pools in the gutter The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night And I love the rain. By Langston Hughes
Finally, Rome!! I have come to understand the meaning of the proverbs βAll roads lead to Rome.β It is a beautiful and ancient city. More importantly it is a city which has been built over by multiple civilizations multiple time throughout its long history. Itβs like an artichoke!
That will be for next time! I am in Florence for 36 hours this time but will come back with husband on next visit. @antonyhsu.bsky.social
Florence is definitely an open air museum. Wow, this is an impressive display of art and wealth. The only poverty in sight is a relic of cityβs favorite dish: Lampredotto.
On multiple occasions, German friends have complained about the unreliability of Deutsche Bahn rail system. Yet my experiences have been on the whole very positive. I hope US follows the example.
I seem to have ticked off a debate about cities in Germany. Glad to contribute with pictures to support both sides of the argument.
Letβs not rehash this again. We are all living in pretty cities.
That is strange.
Notice all these are pictured in summer. π
One week from today!
There is an unfortunate theme to Mannheim (and Essen) architecture which shows the scars of WWII, nowhere better exemplified than in this building. You can almost see the outline of the bombed out structure.
Mannheim is expansive and beautiful, mixing pre-war architecture with post war pragmatism. Loved my visit to Mannheim Palace.
Open air museum also includes history. And Essen is filled with incredible history nuggets. Not everything has to be baroque ornate to be historically interesting or pretty. We are social scientists after all.
And the research community here is stellar! Come for the pretty city and stay for the econ debates!
Oh ye, of little faith! π―
I did not. A quick zip and I wish to visit it again for a more in depth appreciation.
Fantastic day visiting @ckronenberg.bsky.social and colleagues in Essen. Very pretty city with heavy history.
Tea is the best drink in the world. #Amsterdam in the morning.
I am starting my sabbatical travel with a one day stopover in Amsterdam. Such a magical city!!
Ok timeline cleanser. Show me your teen celebrity crushes in gifs.
