Black and white print with title "The White Wolf and a View of the Dog Rib Rock". It shows a rather ferocious looking wolf, standing in a mountainous landscape.
This fabulous print of an arctic wolf and landscape was based on drawings made by Lieutenant Robert Hood and Lieutenant George Back during #SirJohnFranklin's first Arctic land expedition in 1819.

Before 1960, The National Hospital for Nervous Diseases' logo showed just three of the four of the UK national flowers - rose (England), shamrock (Ireland) and thistle (Scotland).
The Hospital is now called the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) and has all four UK national flowers, since about 1961.
The current logo of The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, which was introduced in around 1961, including the daffodil this time. It replaced the three UK flower emblem logo that was in use from 1860 to 1961.
Today’s images link Feb. and March’s #ExploreYourArchive themes, #EYAConnections, #EYAWildlife, and St. David’s Day.
After its centennial in 1960, the National Hospitals for Nervous Diseases (as known then), added the daffodil to its logo with the other 3 UK national flowers. Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

A sepia coloured page with two adult coots, one standing and one floating on the water. A coot chick is running towards the floating adult with its tiny wings flapping and beak open. Its parent is calm and sedate, floating on the water.
It's #worldwildlifeday and here are a group of beautiful coots, drawn by illustrator E. H. Shepard.
Shepard, best known for his illustrations for 'Winnie-the-Pooh', often made studies of wildlife in his sketchbooks.

Front cover of the publication 'Strutt Street Belper – ‘The First Fifty Years’ by Belper u3a Local History Group 3. It features a black and white photograph of Strutt Street ca. 1905.
New in our #LocalStudies library, 'Strutt Street Belper – ‘The First Fifty Years’ is a fascinating study of street development from the first proposal of a thoroughfare in 1877, to the interconnected history of its residents and businesses up until 1939.

A handwritten page in a notebook. It begins 'Friday May 29th 1840. Journey to London.' It then lists each stop on the journey and how many miles there was in between.
A double page from the same notebook continuing the details of the journey.
A modern document, showing a table which summarises the journey, giving place names and distances in miles.
Our #ArchiveOfTheWeek, this fascinating notebook, shows that if you were travelling from Chesterfield to London in 1840 you would have changed coach 17 times and have needed 65 horses in total! The 158 mile journey would have taken 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Collage of three sepia photographs from the Cardiff Docklands Collection.
The first shows a formal portrait of a couple [a White woman sitting, Black man standing] and a small Multiethnic boy. The second shows a young Black woman dressed smartly sitting posed in an artist’s studio - “From May to Etta with Love” is written in the top left of the photo. The third photo shows a White woman [in smart Edwardian clothing] standing alongside a very small Black boy standing on a chair, dressed in a smart velvet suit with white frilled collar and white knee-high socks.
Our volunteers loved working on this collection of portraits from Cardiff’s docklands community, taken between 1900-1920.

A small printed plan, with the title ‘A Plan of the Navigable canal now making from Chesterfield in the County of Derby to the River Trent near Stockwith in the County of Nottingham surveyed in 1770’. It shows the route from Chesterfield to Gainsborough and distances between various places.
We love this small-scale plan of the navigable canal connecting Chesterfield to the River Trent near Stockwith, surveyed in 1770 by J Lodge, showing journey distances and landmarks along the route. What an amazing achievement it was!

The Solway Viaduct from Seafield postcard. This shows a large bridge stretching across the Solway. This is a black and white postcard photo from years gone by.
Anyone heard of The Solway Viaduct? 🌉
Did you know that during WW1 this helped to supply H.M. Factory Gretna?🤔
The Solway Viaduct was a railway line and bridge that once connected England and Scotland.
