Much more than a steely bravura showpiece: for me, it is a reflection of Tchaikovsky’s beautiful and complex soul in all its aspects. There is ardent lyricism, tenderness and purity, moments of magnificence which unite the piano and the orchestra in gloriously sweeping melodies…

As I’m preparing for two Tchaikovsky 1 concerts in Prague this week, I wanted to repost a clip from last year 😀 it’s without doubt one of my all-time favourite concertos, and has been since I’ve first played it at the age of 18.

Probably the catchiest bit of Beethoven’s first concerto! And definitely the bit I liked the most as a kid 😀
