A few weeks later he returned to the same place and found the tip, a phalanx bone and part of a rib.
In February 1983, palaeontologists Alan J. Charig and Angela C. Milner, after seeing the find, went to the pit and found more fragments.
In 1986, Charig and Milner named it Baryonyx walkeri.

In January 1983, plumber and amateur fossil collector William J. Walker found a rock with a large claw in it. After taking it home he realized the tip was gone

The things I feel are important about the paper are:
1) We got a 3D, muscle-driven dinosaur to jump; and a similar simulation of a bird does well enough, too
2) The results of the simulations make sense in terms of theory of jumping dynamics
3) Tail mobility outstrips other inputs in importance
New #DAWNDINOS paper!
We do predictive simulations of vertical height jumping in the Triassic theropod Coelophysis & extant (tinamou) bird Eudromia. Mainly as sensitivity analysis of what parameters are most important. We show how crucial tail mobility is.

@claireburr.bsky.social @paleontologizing.bsky.social - something to look at on stream
if only he would do something about the pedos in the church, maybe, just maybe, he would have a long term positive effect on the world
Microscopy Monday: We chatted bioethics of classic mouse/rat experiments, genetic engineering in flies, and imaged harvester ants! Thank you @paleontologizing.bsky.social @goodish_gamer @dostuffmakethings @tba_listenhere @petradactyl.bsky.social for the raids! We passed the love to @pomatomaster.ca

In 1819, James Everard Home formally described the first Ichthyosuarus, Proteosaurus, now Temnodontosaurus.
In 1821, Henry De la Beche and William Conybeare formally named Ichthyosaurus
In 1974, after an extensive search, C. McGowan reported the initial specimen lost.
The weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Ichthyosaurus
In 1814, Mary and Joseph Anning found the first fairly complete specimen.
In 1818, Charles Kong first used the name Ichthyosaurus, but it was not a scientific description.

Im working on a render, with some of the VFX models from the show, and a lot of fan models, to get an idea of how big different ships were in the show. If you want to take a look, let me know :D
Im also doing a scale render with a heap of fan designed models including a heap of Martins SGEAW models
Czech Stargate fan Martin Taichl joins Dial the Gate to explore his extraordinary custom-built Stargate model collection with just a 3D printer.

Yucky! Apparently there is a 2,600 ACRE data center that is proposed near Dinosaur Valley in Glen Rose, TX. I grew up loving that area, and I have numerous fond memories of it.
Please help me tell the powers that be we do NOT want this data center.

We trying to have most #kakapo chicks hatch in nests on Pukenui, so don't have many eggs in the incubators. But there are ~4 which we're incubating and will put in nests just before they hatch. The Anchor chicks are due to start hatching soon - watch this space! #kakapo2026 #conservation
