A third of the way through the Anachronox demo, the player encounters a
hulking alien merchant. “My sorrow runs deep,” the merchant, whose name
is Demonstrare, says. “I will only exist for the short duration of this demo.
I do not exist in the full version.
“Write the company. Tell them that you want me in the full version.”
What Demonstrare, even with his curse of self-awareness, did not
anticipate was that if anyone did ask Ion Storm to bring him over to “the
full version,” it wouldn’t have mattered. The demo shipped on a disc stuck
to the cover of a PC Gamer — where it shared space with now-forgotten

titles like Throne of Darkness and The Corporate
Machine — four months after Anachronox itself had
been released, and three months after Ion Storm’s parent
company had shut down the studio.
Demonstrare never made it to Anachronox. And while
twenty-five years later the game can run on modern
hardware, the demo does not. Demonstrare is gone.
Recently, I asked Richard Gaubert, the writer of
Anachronox, if the developers ever heard anything about
Demonstrare.
Gaubert didn’t even remember the character.

Here is a little bit of @duncanfyfe.net's afterword for "How Can We Bear to Throw Anything Away?"

I threw a handful of food that bounced off Anna a few minutes ago. She just shook herself like a dog and corn flew out everywhere and they all got excited

I depressingly think this might become the new normal in 'multipolarity'. minimal boots on the ground, no even pretense at nation building, just an occasional 'fuck you' bombing campaign that kills top leadership and has the explicit intent of destabilization.

I can agree with that

(That's not to say that NATO isn't using Ukraine for its own ends -- they are, and that's why they won't give them enough weapons to win quickly. They would rather UA bog RU down for years while their economy dies, instead of actually stopping the attempted genocide. But that's a separate topic)

BRICS was never going to do anything because it's not a coherent organization. It was originally just a list of countries with certain phenomena in the bond market.

Plus, do we really think China is supplying RU for the love of the game? No, they're getting land in Manchuria. They're using RU too

We see two house sparrows drinking out of a puddle. The male says to the female: "Good puddle!" to which she replies "I love you but you have low standards". Pigeons arrive in the background, the female says "Ope! Here comes the herd" There is a long horizontal frame of the two sparrows in the midst of a bunch of pigeons cooing around them. The male then says "gentle giants" the female agrees "mhm" and then says "coo" and the male responds "haha. coo!"

people are honestly still so scared of feminism including just the word "feminism" and it would be funny if it weren't so sad. some men will go to their graves defending actively hilariously offensive portrayals of men in games/tv/movies bc they're so scared of engaging with feminism at all

reading about organisms that aren’t your specialty is like

margins of the quorbus eplungulate, ploobular processes bent posteriorly towards the foobulum

define term “eplungulate”
- lacking plungae. synonym: thubulous

A shockingly high number of people believe that, because they're smart and have read history, they are now immune to propaganda.

It makes me wonder how much of this is an online problem, because every protest I encounter IRL always has like 3 Ukrainian flags

The power outages and freezing conditions in Ukraine right now are insane. Greenland news and war “coverage fatigue” not giving it the presence in headlines it deserves. The humanitarian impact is absolutely staggering.

I think this doesn't happen anymore because the left has no real leaders. There's no one to line up behind.

Local leaderless power gets undercut by the fact that large parts of the population live in a way where community contact is minimized. It's in many ways an infrastructure problem

The primary question is whether the majority of the fuck up will be on purpose or by accident imo. Trump can be reliably counted on to choose evil solutions and then implement them really poorly and half-assed

The case for nuclear nonproliferation gets weaker all the time thanks to this administration. Repeatedly, non-nuclear states get bombed and assaulted, while nuclear states get treated with kid gloves and given a million chances.

I wouldn't put much stock in this, he flip flops too much.

Trump thinks leaders rule countries entirely on their own, it's part of why he hasn't staffed most of the open govt positions. He thinks that by capturing Maduro, he has now instantly won, and whatever he dreams up will automatically happen

Allow me to connect some dots for you:

Too much of the world currently relies for its basic functions on resources which must be continuously extracted. You burn that oil one time and oops, now you need more.

Geopolitical horrors are, in fact, one of the reasons we need to move to renewables ASAP.

Remember how appalled we all were in 2022 when Russia completely unprovoked attacked Ukraine? That is what we’re doing tonight with Venezuela. We are the bad guys here. Everyone who supports this is supporting unprovoked murder. Fuck every last one of them

As a Ukrainian, if you ever cared about Russia's fascist illegal, illegitimate and unjust invasion of Ukraine, you should absolutely care about US's fascist illegal, illegitimate and unjust invasion of Venezuela. My solidarity and best wishes to all Venezuelans.
