I get this totally. Though I purposely go to cons with intent to hang out with only a few friends. This is what I did for EF and it was a nice breath of fresh air. Cons are good for when you have a lot of international friends scattered everywhere but the best is taking a week to go visit locals.

Went unexpectedly to EF to see friends I hadn’t seen since before Covid. Stayed in the RV with Shirou less than 450m from con, on opposite side of train station. 11.50 a day for parking. New Venue has really nice potential. Hamburg is a beautiful City. Radisson is the hotel to stay at. Good times!!
