Coincidentally, I just read the passage on Niki Lauda's experience of this race - which he won - in his memoir My Years With Ferrari. He was concentrating so hard on getting the most out of his car that was damaged by the debris from the accident, he didn't realize Pryce had died until after.
At the 1977 South African Grand Prix, Tom Pryce and a young marshal were killed in one of #F1's most horrific accidents, bringing home the importance of more robust safety training.
