The GEDI spaceborne lidar sensor shows how forests in Central Europe have changed since 2019. The canopy cover of the overstorey has declined, while that of the understorey has increased.

... we found:
โ€ข A litter fuel moisture model from ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ for Eucalyptus also works well for beech and spruce forests.
โ€ข Fire Weather Index from EFFIS and German WBI underestimate fire danger in bark beetled forest stands.
โ€ข Soil moisture and Sentinel-1 backscatter are no good predictors for dead-FMC.

Historical spy imagery for the entire State of Saxony ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช is now available to the public. Together with #GeoSN we published @leipzigerbuchmesse.bsky.social country-wide georeferenced mosaics for 1965 and 1975.
