Issue No. 2 of the Decatur Independent is out, hot off the presses! This one is free to read but there might be a requirement to sign up for the free tier using your email to access it. I'm still getting the hang of a few things in Ghost.

Amplification is uncritical echoing. This is covering politics. It won't always be politics you personally like.
Covering well funded efforts to change policy is important. This may not be based in solid science but it has support from senators and the EPA. It's like a project 2025 for banning abortion drugs. They are openly discussing it as an "innovation" on that front. People can't ignore this stuff.
I can see progress even if it's just the ability to change chords a little more smoothly than before!
Like, today I just got my guitar out, messed around with the 5-ish chords I know and just tried switching from one to the other while sticking to whatever strumming pattern I was doing. I feel like just playing consistently, whether it's a full practice routine or not, is the key.
Random Observation: I have been trying to learn and stick to guitar these past few months. This time around has felt different in that I've stuck to it better than usual and I think it's b/c I don't necessarily TRY to do a full-blown practice routine every time I play.
ICYMI: We launched on Friday, February 27, here's our first issue! decaturindependent.mymagic.page/volume-1-iss...
Tonight, the Greensburg Airport Board, Water Board, Redevelopment Commission (TIF) and Plan Commission meet.
I restarted my Animal Crossing island a while back b/c I had one that had all the fruit and such but I overdid it with terraforming and ended up with a half-baked island I wasn't sure what to do with & wanted to start fresh w/whatever update was coming.
I have a Switch but barely play it and don't have Switch Online at the moment.

Also - people looking for independent newsrooms specifically in your area, it's always worth checking the list of current LION members, not every outlet is going to be a LION member but there are a lot of them out there: lionpublishers.com/members/
Not every good independent outlet is involved in LION but a lot of them are, particularly smaller local ones. LION has a list of current members, worth checking to see what might be in your area: lionpublishers.com/members/
(Heads up - my newsletter will focus on local news in a rural part of Indiana, if that's not relevant to you, think before following because our first few issues are likely going to revolve around what the local gov't meetings are doing while I get some momentum going.)
@statesnewsroom.com - any site in that family is solid & I don't just say that b/c I've done freelance work for one of their sites. @mirrorindy.org for Indianapolis specific news. @decaturindependent.bsky.social - my own newsletter, not fully launched yet but will be soon.
I get most of my national news from the Associated Press. I should probably read ProPublica more than I do but I have the worst luck of browsing their site & finding some intriguing but loooong article at a moment when I do not have time to read the whole thing.
All the @statesnewsroom.com family of websites. My own @decaturindependent.bsky.social which is launching very soon (was meant to launch last week but, technical difficulties). For Indy-specific news, @mirrorindy.org is solid.
I don't follow this person but someone I follow reposted their post. I'm probably not even movie person enough to have 8 movies for my own list but I just wanted to shout-out All The President's Men being on anyone's list.
OBI TOPPIN!
Announcement: I am now the IRE's employment and career advancement task force chair. Our previous chair had to step down mid-term, they needed someone to take over and asked if anyone currently serving on the task force could step up. I offered to, and, well, here I am!

Asked Rick Carlisle for a follow up after the NBA called his characterization of events inaccurate:
I mostly agree w/WiiU b/c I completely missed most of that era of gaming. Didn't get a 3DS 'til 2016ish. Started as a young kid w/a Gameboy Color, then got a hand-me-down PS1 as my first console. First Nintendo console was a Gamecube, had the Wii, then eventually got a Switch in 2021ish.
Someone else mentions WiiU and I'd say WiiU is a contender, I skipped that one completely, I went Wii to Switch, WiiU hit when I was at a phase of not being that interested in games and I can't think of anything specific to it that didn't just get ported to Switch or was a port from Wii.
I didn't have an N64 but I feel like it's mostly iconic for Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask and a few other titles like that. Didn't know some had strong opinions about the catalog/library on N64.
I finally found my perfect piece of Unrivaled gear today and ordered it! The Lola Bunny t-shirt they've got! None of the general league merch has really grabbed me & I hesitate to buy something team specific b/c most of the players have been on different teams each season so far.
