Also in the best of the Quatermass film!
Resurrection is the good one. Peter Dinklage is the main villain but there's an all-star lineup. The "Young Dexter" series with Christian Bale as his dad is pretty decent, too. But I agree about the later seasons (and the first reboot)
The latest season of Dexter is terrific. Best since Season 4.
Let's do a thread of hopeful and/or life affirming movies. Whatcha got?
I'm going to be a basic bitch and start with 2025's Superman, which I thought was outstanding. I didn't think I could get behind a new Superman these days, but Corenswet was perfect.
Saw this on TV as a kid (when it premiered). I haven't seen it since but I don't need to, so much of it is still vivid.
Also that is a killer poster. I used to stare at it in the theater lobby as a kid. Eventually got my own copy! Charles Addams art!
Much funnier in concept than execution. Have watched it several times, each time thinking it MUST be funnier than I remember. Nope. Love the cast tho.
She is quite wrong. Hillary and Kamala both lost for reasons (largely) unrelated to their gender. (To be fair misogyny WAS behind the 30 years of anti-Hillary propaganda but no other candidate faces that).
There were many reasons that people didn't vote for Kamala and Hillary. It's self-defeating to reduce that to "they were women." This sort of reasoning leads to women not being nominated by the bean-counter type of Dem; "I like her, but she can't win 'cause, you know, chick."
The Who's song "Pictures of Lily" was inspired by Lily Langtry, a fact the Judge might appreciate.
This is the worst Predator movie on paper. Quippy robot, li'l animal pal, found family, happy ending, Disney to the max... how tf is it so damned AWESOME?
Left out "as far as we know" since only 2% have been released and those are still heavily redacte.

Yeah, that's how most of us found out he was gay. His father refused his last request (Irish wake). I'm still mad about that.
Um, the story gets sadder. AIDS.
Quick personal story: a friend of mine saw Freebie and the Bean and RAVED about it (we were kids btw). The film is extremely homophobic (I only saw it recently) but this kid, who was gay (though not out, I didn't know) loved it. My guess is he was just glad to see ANY representation. Different time.
The counterculture was very racist and misogynist (i love R. Crumb's work but oh my God! looking at it today it's YIKES!). Homophobic, yes, but gay people Did Not Exist in culture (generally). Paul Lynde and Liberace seem like screaming stereotypes now but at the time few saw them as "gay."
The misogyny was NOT a step forward, it was the same thing as before only raunchier. Disappointing from Altman who generally had well-rounded female characters.
It mostly gets by on the charisma of its leads. One must remember that the racism and homophobia actually were a step FORWARD, as this was a time when such things were not even mentioned in mainstream entertainment. That said, I still don't like the movie.
