The Law Firms That Appeased Trump—and Angered Their Clients After firms struck deals to avoid punitive executive orders, some big clients decided to take their business elsewhere.

WSJ quotes corporate GC on corporate distaste for law firms that capitulated to Trump: "if firms facing White House pressure 'don’t have a hard line,' they don’t have any line at all."

Two exclamation points in the opening paragraph of a fed'l judge's opinion is unusual. Judge Leon enjoins Trump's entire EO against the Wilmer Cutler law firm, going beyond the relief they asked for. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Covering the courts for nearly two decades, I've never seen a federal judge tell the government in exclamation-point-punctuating exasperation that an executive order violates the vision of the Framers.

During the Army-McCarthy hearings, Hale and Dorr’s Joseph Welch took on pro bono
representation of the United States Army in a time when anti-communist sentiment was at its
height. Welch’s advocacy—and his famous “Have you no decency, sir” rejoinder—began the
process that ended Senator McCarthy’s career.
