Green menace infused arteries chlorophyll pumping human-nettle-hybrids lurking between bare ash trees being watched by deep-green eyes hiding in plain sight sylvan predators whetting barbed fangs on brittle bottles made of bones our sins came alive forged in the flames of burning rain forests we created our monsters in feeding our greed

The Solitude You put one foot in front of the other. I observe you watching them put one in front of the other. I observe all three watching as one foot is placed in front of the other. I am infinite regression. Alone in being the watcher watching. Never alone. Lonely in a crowd of watchers watching. Aware of being watched is not solitude. No solitude with all these eyes inside my head.

Watched Three pings send me cold. I know I shouldn't look but do. “It says you were active.” “It says you’re online.” “You told me you were sleeping…” I stare at the screen, exhale. Toggle settings. Don't respond. Pray for peace and get five more pings instead. “It says info not available.” “It says status withheld.” “What the hell are you doing?” “I know you’re there.” “Who are you with?” My eyes ache. I delete the messages. Make this tomorrow’s problem. I switch the phone to silent to smother the pings, turn my back to the glow, and hope sleep will carry me somewhere he can’t follow. I can’t do this anymore.
