.@talshalev.bsky.social is wrong to say the attack has “symbolic meaning in Judaism.” It’s right that some ppl argue a specific Jewish text has parallels to Iran+means Iran should be attacked. Not all Jews agree that the text — or our entire religion as Tal claims — supports either argument.

.@talshalev.bsky.social updated the story now that Netanyahu has invoked this argument. But the story still has major problems.

She says as fact that the attack has “symbolic meaning in Judaism” rather than saying HE invoked a specific Torah passage. And @cnn.com has no note about the update.

If politicians justify this attack by citing Amalek (as they’ve done in other attacks), then report that. Or, you could write an article that cites experts arguing that Israel+the US likely timed this attack based on this idea.
