ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. Sheβs married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.

Thousands of Minnesotans are still too scared to leave home, even for desperately needed medical care. So doctors and nurses have quietly operated informal, underground medical networks to bring that care to them.

.@talshalev.bsky.social is wrong to say the attack has βsymbolic meaning in Judaism.β Itβs right that some ppl argue a specific Jewish text has parallels to Iran+means Iran should be attacked. Not all Jews agree that the text β or our entire religion as Tal claims β supports either argument.
.@talshalev.bsky.social updated the story now that Netanyahu has invoked this argument. But the story still has major problems.
She says as fact that the attack has βsymbolic meaning in Judaismβ rather than saying HE invoked a specific Torah passage. And @cnn.com has no note about the update.

If politicians justify this attack by citing Amalek (as theyβve done in other attacks), then report that. Or, you could write an article that cites experts arguing that Israel+the US likely timed this attack based on this idea.
Screenshot of an article from CNN: Timing of US-Israel attack on Iran bears symbolic meaning in Judaism By Tal Shalev The timing of the US and Israeli attack on Iran bears symbolic meaning in Judaism. Ahead of the upcoming Jewish holiday of Purim, worshippers read the specific portion from the Old Testament, known as Zachor. The passage from the book of Deuteronomy commands the ancient Israelites to remember an unprovoked attack by the nation of Amalek and to eradicate the memory of Amalek once the Israelites are settled in their land. The passage is read publicly before Purim to fulfil the mitzvah of remembering Amalek as Israelβs achetypical enemy.
I feel sick. This post by @talshalev.bsky.social+@cnn.com breaks journalism ethics+is already being cited by antisemites.
It implies as fact that Judaism+therefore Jews think Iran is akin to Amalek, not that some ppl (Jews+non-Jews) who support this attack believe that.
