#FindsFriday - Cremation Burial.

The leaden canister contains the cremated bones of a man aged at least 35 in a linen cloth. Libations of #wine, milk    or honey could have been poured down the leaden pipe.

Found at the south-east of the fortress at #Caerleon #Archaeology 📸 My own

From my diary I've been on holiday since 25 February, and I have even managed to go away.  Hurrah!   But fear not, I shall not post my holiday photographs.  It was mostly very grey up there anyway.  But even though...

I don't care, I'm on holiday.

A Day in the Life of an Ensh*ttificator
A Day in the Life of an Ensh*ttificator YouTube video by Forbrukerrådet - Norwegian Consumer Council

"Make people dependent enough, and then make it shitty"

Still giggling at this hilarious video from the Norwegian Consumer Council "A Day in the Life of an Ensh*ttificator" which seems a perfect embodiment of Silicon Valley and tech generally these days

My new JTS article on (Ps.-)Didymus the Blind's De Trinitate is out! I argue for a late-fourth-century dating, showing that the angelology of De Trin is perfectly compatible with practices of angel veneration that are well-attested in that period. academic.oup.com/jts/advance-...

The recently discovered Maronite World Chronicle does mention the Third Council of Constantinople, but does not mention John Maron, who became patriarch after the denunciation of monotheletism. This is odd.

Is it possible that John Maron is the author of this chronicle?

Ancient Coin of the Day: Something a little niche today, with coins issued by the interesting figure of Vetranio in AD 350, starting with this rather fabulous solidus. #ACOTD #Numismatics 🏺 🧵

But your point is quite valid. The mass media is simply not reporting stuff.

Have two accounts, perhaps? One to get news, the other for academic stuff. Block on the academic account.

Why is HMRC making tax so diabolical? April’s Making Tax Digital launch will instead Make Tax Difficult

A very sensible article in the @FT (and not paywalled) about the awful new tax regime in the UK.

The bit that really grates is being forced to pay private companies for software to file your new exciting 5 tax returns a year.

Somehow, an 8th-c. English liturgical manuscript ended up in Mount Sinai (where it was palimpsested and written over by a Christian Arabic scribe). For more info: Michelle Brown, austriaca.at/0xc1aa5572%2...

Catholic Library, Muslim Books In the 1950s and 1960s, the Dominicans in Cairo collected rare printed books in Arabic, particularly Muslim devotional works rarely found in other libraries.

"In the 1950s and 1960s, the Dominicans collected rare printed books in Arabic, particularly Muslim devotional works . . . These books are slim and ephemeral . . . Most other repositories of rare books in the Muslim world don’t think they’re worth collecting."

For he had a left hand where his right hand should be.

Building a Christian Arabic Library at Mount Sinai: The Scribe Thomas of Fusṭāṭ and the Manuscripts of His Workshop This contribution focuses on the monk-scribe Thomas of Fusṭāṭ (Tūmā l-Fusṭāṭī) who was active at St Catherine’s Monastery at Mount Sinai at the turn from the ninth to the tenth century CE. He belonged...

So, here's the article I have out as of today and it's #OpenAccess. It deals with one of the earliest Christian Arabic scribal workshops in the Sinai monastery, where many of the mss produced there have been preserved to this day. In this 🧵 I do a quick rundown of the most important findings. 1/n
