The clumps of primroses in the garden are putting on a brave display, despite the ground being cold and waterlogged.
They take me back to my childhood because they were one of the first flowers I learned to identify.

Pale and washy dawn in North Devon this morning but at least it’s neither icy nor wet.

What a difference to wake up to a clear sky!

This morning’s pre-dawn sing along by the blackbirds and robins has been joined by a song thrush. I think it’s the first time I’ve heard one this year.

We made this same circuit of these sites back in August and found them fascinating.
Down here, in North Devon, we’re lucky to have Cleeve Abbey nearby.

Only a brief tinge of colour to the eastern sky this morning but a heavenly sight to the west: 92% waning gibbous moon about to set.

For a while there have been primroses in flower in the border. But it’s only today that I have been able to get across the soggy lawn to see them.

Fleeting colour in the pre sunrise North Devon sky this morning. It’s quite a few days since we’ve had anything but grey first thing.

We managed a brief trip to our allotment last week too, cutting down the raspberry canes and pulling out a few weeds from one of the strawberry beds until our fingers became so cold we could no longer feel them. It still felt good, though. 🌱

Just before sunrise and a light mist is just clearing. Narrowly avoided a frost.

In the middle of the day, the sky darkened and this cloud delivered an almighty hailstorm.

A dawn sky, with a silhouetted line of trees in the foreground and a mainly clear sky, shading from rich peach at the horizon, upwards through pale lemon and ice blue to the deeper tones of the receding night. Some ragged cloud, to the north, is grey with tints of purple.

Forty minutes before sunrise in North Devon this morning. It’s another frosty start.

I am always amazed by how the song from such a tiny bird can carry so well through woodland.

Multi coloured North Devon dawn again this morning.
Must knuckle down and get back into my writing groove today - a grim cold, caught between Christmas and New Year, has hampered efforts thus far.

If there are any Netgalley reviewers who would like to read a wartime saga set in North Devon, then I’ll just mention that my forthcoming release, Isabel’s War, is now available to request.

There’s nothing quite like harvesting your own living room lemon! And the fragrance from the blossom is divine!

We might be two weeks on from the shortest day, meaning that sunset, here in North Devon, is already fourteen minutes later, but sunrise remains stuck at 08.20. It will be 6th January before it starts rising earlier.
This morning’s sunrise gave only this brief but bold flash of colour.

I know I posted an almost identical picture of last night’s moon but hey - when Mother Nature puts on a spectacle like this . . .

We’re fortunate in North Devon that, at the moment, it is still 4C - but I still got cold taking this picture of this evening’s full moon.

A rather feeble sunrise to welcome the new year in my location. But at least it’s ten degrees centigrade warmer outside this morning than it was at this time yesterday.
Happy New Year, Bluesky friends.
