The shallowness of his reasoning is stunning. Perhaps this sample isn't representative but from listening to the Origin Story podcast episode on him I suspect it is.

Ok so the Tintin puzzle was too exciting and because of that I didn't really get a chance to do any of it.

Maybe this one will be less exciting. Not sure though.

It turns out my spectacle prescription hasn't changed since it was last checked four years ago but I need stronger tears to stop me getting dry eyes. I think I can do that.

Unfortunately I suspect that fomenting a broad persistent civil war in Iran would probably be classified as a success by Trump and his allies.

Come to Bristol Bluesky drinks! Some people are coming from out of town. There will be the full range of Bluesky users who sign up to drinks in Bristol. They are happening from 7 pm on Wednesday 18th March at a central Bristol pub. DM me for the details.

Keir Starmer criticised over stance on US-Israel strikes on Iran UK prime minister has adopted a much more ambivalent approach than other western allies

Lord Peter Ricketts, former head of the Foreign Office:

β€œIf you’re going to attack a country you have to show it is in self-defence and that there is some kind of imminent threat. You can’t make that case here…An indifference to international law is dangerous.”

This is a profoundly important point. Dmitry makes in this thread.

Encouraging people or countries to dole out their individual "justice" breaks down very quickly. We should have learned this lesson (but clearly haven't).

If I knew that I'd have contradicted my own joke.
I doubt it though and I doubt your characterization is specific enough to find a workable center either tbh.

Your description gives good examples of the discontinuities I was thinking of.
A good chunk of people are passionately NOT socially conservative and are repelled by social Conservatism that is too extreme. Same with Gaza positioning.

I was being jokey but I think it's because there seem to be discontinuities in the pool of opinion that mean that optimal positioning (which we may loosely call "centre") is not a simple "average" position.
Yes this answer slightly contradicts my jokey response. That's intentional.

In their portfolio of policies some matter more than others. They do need some of these more important policies to sit less on the right, don't you think?

Indeed. It seems like he expresses the things he least believes in with the most force. A form of over compensation I suppose.

This is so obviously true that I wonder why Starmer is getting this wrong.
Does he think he can sell a different message internal to the Labour parliamentary party than externally?
I can't really figure it out.
