Getting rehabilitated into society does not mean having an editor go out of their way to scout you to work on a prestige manga project. There is no lack of talent in Japan and even if there was, this does not serve as an excuse.
Every professional translator I know has the same position on this and can easily explain the reasons for it when asked. The fact that executives don't even bother to ask and force translators to work on AI/MTL slop regardless makes it clear where their priorities lie: money trumps quality.
Writing is hard. Writing is great. Writing sucks. I love writing. I wish I could stop writing. I cannot stop writing. Please help. Please leave me alone, I have another 3 pages to get through. Please read my work. Please never perceive this garbage I've created. Respect me. Ignore me.
AI does not "assist" translators, it just makes their work harder, brings down the quality, and impacts their pay. π
