Little Melonae is another remake of a Jackie McLean tune, originally attempted on October 26, 1955. That version also sat in the vault until 1973's outtakes collection 𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙨. Personnel is the same, except Garland is present and Adderley was not yet in the band.

Most of the individual takes were released on the 2003 boxed set 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙚 𝙅𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 and make for an interesting comparison to the assembled master. This is part one:

CBS's research department invented two electronic devices, an 'electronic switcher', which can switch instruments in the stereo field, used most obviously on the drums, and an 'instant playback' that repeats instruments with a long delay. There may also be additional overdubs.
